Pondering a change after 30 odd years...
My vote would be for KEF monitors on very good stands with a sealed sub in at least one corner, preferably two.......
O.k after making some adjustments the sound is off the charts. This is BIG.
Mike in pa......I am envious of that experience. What a trip that must have been! Pun intended. The Dead played like no other band I have ever seen live..... Fortunately I saw them many times while living in Cali....Am grateful I went to their las...
My venture into the world if demagnitizing vinyl. Your results may vary.
Mijostyn, good point. Wish I still had my bulk de-magnetizer so I could try it out.

Is entirely possible that the demagnetizer is having an effect on whatever particles might be at the bottom of the grooves.....? Might be some impurities in there.....
Analog or Digital and why?
Why not listen to everything you have? I listen to CDs, Cassettes, FM, Streaming, and LPs.My vinyl collection is my main focus as is my turntable.... Everything sounds great on a well put together system, some formats just sound better than others...
ls FM radio even listenable any more?
Seattle has excellent FM still. Far left end of the dial has a bit of Jazz, Bellevue College broadcasts a massive variety.... KEXP is hard to grab sometimes but I have two NAD tuners that can play it nice and clean. Best part about an FM tuner is ...
Should people who can't solder, build or test their speakers be considered audiophiles?
"Audiophile" is such a pretentious word when used by elitist enthusiasts.....Anyone who has taken the time to carefully put together a transparent and natural sounding system then SHARES that knowledge with others should be considered a "member" o...
What was your most disappointing album purchase?
The Journey Greatest Hits re-release is just awful. Clearly an LP pressed from MP3 files. Absolutely awful.
How many people here generally buy used?
I prefer to rebuild/restore used gear that might have issues, especially turntables. Currently run a rebuilt Beogram, Nak tape deck and a rebuilt NAD preamp. All other gear is used as well except for a Sony CD deck that I got new way back in 1987.
I'm putting to rest worrying about sibilance
Too bad linear tracking isn't more "popular"..... My Beogram 4002 has zero sibilance issues.....unless the pressing isn't great. Also have a "modified" Technics SL-DL5 in my office system....zero sibilance from it as well.
Why no interest in reel to reel if you're looking for the ultimate sound?
Recently restored a gorgeous TEAC X-1000R for a friend..... It runs and sounds fantastic of course. He has a big advantage in that the deck belonged to his late father so it also came with probably 100 or so prerecorded/self-recorded tapes. He now...
parasound hca-1205a stay in protect
I run an HCA-855a and when it is cold it usually triggers the protect relay one time..... After a 5 minute warm up it never happens again. Suggest you locate the protect relay within and give it a light tap to see if it disengages.....
Are Bang and Olufsen turntables any good?
Have to say.... The 4002's I have restored and sold always make the buyer gasp when they see it. Truly elegant design.... Just upgraded my 4002's cartridge from the MMC20EN to the MMC20CL. Wow! I did not think this turntable could be improved upon...
Cassettes still rock!
I listen to LPs at home for a number of reasons. Do I care that my LPs are not "digitized" and portable? Nah.... That's what Napster was for back in the day and what ripping CDs is for today.... Sound quality and the material in the LP jacket are ...
Cassettes still rock!
I recently restored a Nakamichi BX-2 (built in Japan) and cannot believe how good it sounds. It replaced a Kenwood double well deck that sounded mediocre in comparison.... Tapes from long ago still sound as good as they did back in the day. LP tra...
