Hypothetical - CD or SACD Player?
Take a look at the discussion thread called 'Why so many Cambridge 840c cd players for sale???'... Someone comments there about the CX7e against the Cambridge Audio 840c.While I haven't heard the CX7e, I can vouch for the 840c as well - can't beat...
Hypothetical - CD or SACD Player?
If you really are limited at $2k for a CDP and if SACD is not a priority, I think your best sound for the buck is in the redbook arena -- at least when considering new CDP prices. But, if you are invested in SACD and you have a sufficiently resolv...
Cambridge Audio 840C
Wow, 3 went up for sale this weekend with 2 sale pending... I imagine many were purchased shortly after the TAS review. I still think this is an exceptional CDP for the money but perhaps many were hoping it really does compete with $5k+ players. I...
Cambridge Audio 840C
Don't give up too quickly on the 840c without listening to it... I know it surprised me. The is much truth to be found in all the hype. Just be sure to give it time to breakin.
Considering Cambridge Audio Amp/CD - Need Advice
Even if you had access to all these in a store, it is very difficult to discern differences much less preferences unless you have it in your own system for an extended period.I'd suggest finding a source that offers you a 30 day evaluation period,...
Rega Saturn vs Cambridge 840c
Daltonlanny, too bad that earlier thread here about this subject went missing... a lot of good comments were made there. Not sure what happened to it.I have not listened to the Saturn but what I can say about the 840c (that has been said by many o...
Rega Saturn vs Cambridge 840c
I seem to recall a discussion about these on AudioAsylum perhaps a month ago. Check there... I think the reviews were mixed - both being excellent CDPs and both so much more bang for the buck than you could have found just a few years ago.
Cambridge Audio 840C
While the Wadia may have an edge on the 3D thing, I have to agree with Smargo about the 840c's musicality. You won't be disappointed by the 840c... and you'd have to get a bit anal when comparing to the more far more expensive competition to hear ...
Rega Apollo vs. Cambridge Audio Azur 840c
I'm not familiar with the Rega players but I can say that the 840c has a top end to die for. There is extension, harmonic decay and detail retrieval that is highly engaging and contributes to an awareness of venue. I've spent a good bit of time co...
Rega Apollo vs. Cambridge Audio Azur 840c
Mdrummer01 - regarding dither... here is a quote from the 840c manual:"The 840C is able to add what is called Triangular Probability Density Function dither to the upsampled Digital Output signals. Normally, dither will have already been added to ...
Good CDP with digital input/DAC capable
Bowbow... having a rough day?Jamesw20 specifically asked about a CDP that has digital inputs. Yep, there are transports that can do just that but, given that he mentioned 'CDP' and the Wadia, the suggestions here are certainly valid.
Good CDP with digital input/DAC capable
I'll second Daltonlanny's recommendation of the Cambridge Audio 840c. You'd have to spend a lot more to match it. What preamp/amp are you feeding it to?
Cambridge Audio 840C
Smargo, that's certainly what I'm hoping. Unfortunately, I only have a 2 week eval period (bought from Spearit Sound) which means I've got to make a decision within the next 5 days.
Cambridge Audio 840C
Yup, I've been using it with my Tact 2.0s which reports the format of the digital input. The 840c does output an upsampled digital stream via the SPDIF out.
Cambridge Audio 840C
OK, after about a week of continuous burn-in, I did some critical listening to my 840c last night and a bit of comparison with my Wadia 830 (w/GNSC mods) although I hope to spend a good bit more time with both this weekend. What I can say is that t...
