Older or Modern amp for older Speakers (NHT 3.3)
Came across this old thread and couldn't help myself.  I had a pair of these in the late 90's and they were wonderful.  I had just graduated college and the 3.3's were jammed into a room way too small; even then still enjoyable.  At the time I use...
NHT 3.3 vs Mirage M3si
I haven't owned 3.3's in 10 years - but they were great when I had them. They certainly won't tip with the outriggers on - but they do dominate a room visually, maybe more so than the M3si's. Either one of those speakers will be pretty old - so ho...
Best 3 channel amplifiers under $750?
Find yourself a used Parasound HCA-2003A. Or if you can up your budget a bit - an Aragon 8008X3. The older stuff is where it's at....
NHT 3.3 or Mirage M1Si?
I see this is and old thread, but even today - the NHT 3.3's are really great speakers. To me they are among the classics (like PSB Goldi) that will always sound excellent and defy the gravity of progress in speaker design.
What speakers play the loudest cleanly ?
Was just thinking of this old thread as I sold my Klipsch RF-83's recently. Anyone else want to chime in?
Def tech supercube reference or REL R-528
I have a SC reference in a simple 2.1 system with SM450's that we basically just watch movies on. It's as ferocious on LFE as the reviews say and as bad on music as the posters here will say.....but to be fair this is in a sub-optimal layout (as e...
Anyone else noticing inflation in used gear $?
This appears to be even more pronounced over the last few months. The prices sellers here are asking and getting is really surprising?
Which JBL use Revel Salon drivers?
The recent Ti series used similar drivers to the original Salon.
Speaker suggestions at around $30k
Herman - the reason I consider the turnover rate relevant is two-fold. First, high turnover suggests a considerable used marketplace to choose from. And second, the length of time you plan to own (and use) something directly affects the chances yo...
Reciver/Integrated same sound?
Receiver can mean 2 channels with a tuner, or a multi channel SSP? Regardless, an integrated amp at the same price should outperform it, although it may not be obvious with all speakers. You'd expect a lot of the difference to show up in drive cap...
Speaker suggestions at around $30k
I think we can all agree that the turnover in audio gear, among "audiophiles" far exceeds that of anything else you mentioned. Furthermore, I can probbably try to make the argument that if you buy into the concept of breaking and burning equipment...
Speaker suggestions at around $30k
Setting aside all of the responses, which seem fair, I always wonder why anyone that has managed to find audiogon would purchase "new" anything? I know the OP did not specify new or used, so the question is not directed at him; I just can't imagin...
Mark Levinson 432 vs 532 vs 532H
Harman (ok...Levinson) doesn't even spec the 532 into 4/2 ohms. That's really a departure for a company with the type of history that ML has. It's also $20K, which is a heckuva jump from the 432 - which looks to have nice build quality, large toro...
Speakers that are RAP music proof
I find myself recommending the same 2 "older" pieces of gear over and over again on these boards because they offer such great value on the used market and seem to do a lot of the things folks request in threads like this. Anyway - find yourself N...
Krell FPB 600 or 400cx?
Matjet - there was a poster earlier in the thread that felt the 600 was a poorly designed, bridged amp that had a tough time with difficult loads. When I look at the Stereophile measurements from their testing, I don't see it - that's all.
