Modding the PS Audio Directstream DAC MK1 and MK2
I should note I also kind of lucked out and there was a used analog power board module on the PSAudio forum I picked up and installed. Ordered a decent external Chinese LPS to use with it and that also was a nice incremental upgrade for minimal co...
Modding the PS Audio Directstream DAC MK1 and MK2
I think you may be able to order the i2s shorting plug for the i2s input #2 which is supposedly the noisier one from Jeff, or post a WTB on the Marketplace at PSAudio and somebody should have one. I guess you can make them also if you know what yo...
Modding the PS Audio Directstream DAC MK1 and MK2
Agree with above post as it is almost exactly how I would describe the upgrade. I can attest to the massive enhancement of the DSD Mk1 after the APS transformers, VOCM mod, and I2s input shorting plug on unused input. I had @richardselectronics d...
Fuse replacement with non stock in preamp External Power Supply??
I did check with Ric at EVS on the SONNCA DAC as he modded the unti I have..Going to leave that alone.Waiting on some Furutetch fuses for the Kismet monoblocks and the VAC external power supply.
My Oppo is a bit too bright
Simao- I have had an OPPO 105 for a few years and it is quite good. I never considered it harsh, but maybe compared to a good Vinyl rig it might seems too clinical. I do have a vinyl rig but it is modest compared to most people here. You can do som...

Streaming DSD to DAC options on home network
Thanks for the reply. I may not be thinking logically or correctly about all of this. LOL.My computer with the dedicated music external hard drive is across the room about 25' away from the stereo rig (and the OPPO Sonica Dac which does have USB i...
Fuse replacement with non stock in preamp External Power Supply??
Hey- last question for now. What about in a DAC? Do you guys do those too???I have a modded OPPO Sonica Dac. It uses a 3.15 Amp 5x20 fuse in the main AC input area. Not sure how to get that fuse out though. It has a little plastic cover or top over...
Fuse replacement with non stock in preamp External Power Supply??
Thanks everybody. Will give it a try. I checked with Kevin at VAC about the correct fuse rating value and he confirmed the rating and that it was Slow Blow.Thinking of going with Furutech rhodium which is decent price and they are  UL approved so w...
Diagnosing a spitting/popping channel- need some help!
Well, I am pretty convinced it is the monoblock power amp.Today it was spitting a bit and I have everything else except the amp turned off (VAC preamp, the Pioneer HT receiver, all sources).I got these monoblocks in 2007. Actually never turn them ...
Diagnosing a spitting/popping channel- need some help!
If when you swapped preamp output cables to the monoblock amplifiers and the problem stays on the the left. The problem is with the left Monoblock Amplifier. I had a noise problem with a Vac Standard Preamp that's why I mentioned it.Thanks hif...
Diagnosing a spitting/popping channel- need some help!
"Had a similar problem with a Measured good but was breaking down with high voltage."Vac Standard Preamp. Problem was bad 100K Ohm plate resistor for the 12au7. But wouldn’t the popping switch channels as mjostyn says when I switched the preamp OU...
Diagnosing a spitting/popping channel- need some help!
mijostyn- IKdog, you have not localized the problem yet. Swap cables on the output of the VAC. If the problem changes sides then you know it is the VAC. If it does not change sides then it is the Lt amp or beyond. Now I am confused which is ve...

Preamp upgrade from Audio Mirror PP1- suggestions?
Ended up with a used VAC Standard.Initial impressions positive.Thing is built like a tank.Lower noise floor. The separate power supply is a first for me.
