Best EL-34 Amps?
Hi Pubul57, I have not tried any of the other tube variants in my Cayins. I am now curious though. I stuck with the EL34s given their reputation and BobbyP's recommendations. Interesting comment on the EL84 lacking power. In my Cayins I get ~38 wa...
Best EL-34 Amps?
These Cayin 860 monoblocks are worth considering. Shameless plug warning.... If you love the luscious, warm, rich, textured sound that only tubes can optimally deliver, explore this Cayin line of gear. These were voiced to match the classic sound ...
What amp should be used with merlin vsm's?
Hi Bobby & all,I think you may be thinking of the BEL 1001 amps. The BEL (Brown Electronic Labs) amps, read similar, but not to be confused with the Belles or Bel Cantos. Maybe the other two work well, but I don't know.I have a BEL Mark IV mod...
Usher CP-8571 II - Long term opinions?
I forgot about SF Cremona and they are in my budget range (used). I've noticed the Cremon "M" version is now out, but way out of my budget range. I was just looking at the Verity ad wondering the same thing. The Verity is not much to look at, more...
Usher CP-8571 II - Long term opinions?
I'm looking for a speaker that is (very) slightly on the romantic side in lieu of the ultra transparent monitor side.I currently have Merlin VSM-MMs and I consider them in that same ultra resolution/transparent/careful component matching thread. I...
Usher CP-8571 II - Long term opinions?
...preferences and perception also would play a part. Absolutely agreed. Silk vs metal tweeters, etc. Thanks to all for the suggestions. I'll add the Dynaudio and Aerials to the list. Plus, I just recalled the Joseph Audio line used to get some gre...
Usher CP-8571 II - Long term opinions?
Audphile1You said "For what the Ushers cost on the used market, I think a better speaker can be had" What's on that better speaker lise (say under$5K). I assume you passed on the Virgos. What's on your short list?Thx,Kenreau
Usher CP-8571 II - Long term opinions?
Thanks guys. I will make it a point to track these down for a listening session. It sounds like they are like many higher end models that are transparent and sound like what ever is upstream feeding them.
classic sounding 25 watt tube amp
VAS also reps Cayin 860 tubed mono blocks which I have and use for my Merlin VSMs. Reportedly modeled after the classic Marantz 9 power amp. I don't see them mentioned very often but imho they offer incredible bang for the $$$..(point to point wir...
Designer Hall of Fame
The BEL 1001 has sustained appreciation for about a decade.
BEL 1001 amps. Specs and ordering
Thanks to all. Fwiw, I have been happy with my Cayin EL34 monoblocs with around 40 watts triode, 80 watts ultralinear. Consulted with Sonicraft for major parts upgrades and they are really sweet. Just considering the SS simplicity.Thanks,Kenreau@y...
BEL 1001 amps. Specs and ordering
Yes, that's how I ended up narrowing down to the BEL's. I had M60 Mk II's for a couple of years. Now using Cayin 860 tubed monoblocks that I really like. Just looking to simplify with ss amps. What would be your #1 SS amp recommendation for the Me...
BEL 1001 amps. Specs and ordering
Pubul57 - I'm also considering investigating the BEL 1001's for my Merlin VSMs. What did you end up doing?
Sweet sounding SE tube amps under $3K USED
Imho, EL34 based amps are a great place to spend some time. The AE Sixpac are very reasonably priced (under $2k used) and highly reviewed. Also, look at the Cayin 860 monoblocs. I bought a new pair for under $3k and they are a fantastic value and ...
