Which speakers did you find bright, fatiguing or just disappointing in some way?
KEF R3I wanted to love them! They looked and sounded great at the big ol’ Magnolia Audio showroom, and I assumed that if they sounded good there, they’d sound GREAT with real gear (vinyl, tubes) at my house. But there was something happening around...
any diffrence between triangle celius es and 202?
I'm 8 months late to this, but:I owned the Triton 202s and then the Triton ES (as well as the Comete 202 and the Zerius 202). Based on that, my opinion is that the ES tweeters were way too loud. The 202 tweeters made for a more balanced-sounding s...
Damaged B&W 6 1/2
Hi Patrick - That sounds like what Brandon at Speaker Repair Of Colorado (recommended by B&W) was suggesting... he didn't go into to detail, but mentioned putting a "kit" together. From my description, he diagnosed mine as a voice-coil problem,...
Damaged B&W 6 1/2
Thank you for the responses!I wish it were a sagging cone (and you can bet I took the driver out to test that theory as soon as I read it!), but I'm afraid it's something to do with the voice coil.I called one of the people B&W recommended (Sp...
The Cheap Stuff
Hi Ghosthouse- sorry for the long wait for a response, I didn't realize it had been so long! The LP is "Out of the Blue" which is my long-standing favorite. The clamp is actually an ADC clamp that may or may not have been part of the ADC 1700 packa...
The Cheap Stuff
OUCH on the B&W Speakers, EJ! I know now not to pass on SUPER cheap stuff, 'cause I can usually sell it if I don't love it. Nilthepill, that is awesome news!
The Cheap Stuff
Thanks for your comments, everyone, and Norman, I'm happy to have posted it. I hope to post some more nice stuff this summer. Cheers all!-Joel
The Cheap Stuff
Yeah, the "I can't believe I'm having this much fun for so cheap!" factor is fantastic.Johnnyb53, are you still rockin' the Onkyo A-9555?Interestingly, I've never heard of the Amber amplifiers. You can bet I'll be checking them out sooner or later...
Oppo vs Rega or Wadia
Wadia makes (made?) some serious-looking stuff, and it sounded great for what it was, but the old Stereophile phrase "ruthlessly revealing" comes to mind. I worked at a dealer in the mid-1990s and always thought the $7000 Wadia player sounded as i...
Best integrated to drive vandersteen 2c's
What did you finally settle on?I have a pair of 2Cs and I'm getting the most puzzling results...
Stereovox vs Kimber
Hi Tomasz! My experience was negative in going from 4TC to 8TC. I found the sound muddied in comparison - this was using NAD gear going to Triangle speakers. Returning 4TC to the system cleared it back up immediately, more transparent and open, bet...
Entry level tube amps?
I think any great tube amp will give you more life and texture in the midrange, that's what tubes are known for!The best tube amps I've ever heard were from BAT and Music Reference. While you're looking to "get into" tubes, for your budget you mig...
Entry level tube amps?
You can probably find a used Music Reference RM-9 for under $2000.00, but it's far, far better than an entry-level amp. It's the first tube amp I ever heard and I understood all the fuss immediately. Seriously great amp.
cd recorder vs. computer burner
Sorry for the non-answer post, but...What is a vf recording? My initial guess is that it probably won't, all things being equal, but I'm very curious as to what you're talking about.
Want to upgrade my Adcom GFP 565 preamplifier
Tkyc - have you tried a new preamp yet?
