Conrad Johnson Premier 12, how powerful?
Unless you are planning to use the speakers in an auditorium, the CJ Premier 12s have plenty of power for that speaker.
HGA Homegrown Audio Silver Lace. Opinions?
I concur with the two prior comments. It is also a persistent myth that silver cables have thin bass or are bright. I'm sure some cables may sound that way but it is NOT because they are silver.
The 1970's Infinity QLS 1...How would it compare?
In a word: badly. The QLS had huge problems with a bloated mid-bass and integration with the much faster mid-range drivers. Run away from these. My experience is based upon a friend who owned them; he gave up after trying 6 months to make them sou...
Want to Start vinyl
As the previous posters have noted, there is a variety of good turntables available at modest cost. I would disagree with the respondents who suggest it is too late or difficult to buy used vinyl. If you live in or near a major city, used vinyl st...
Upgrade for Vpi aries table
I agree with Narrod. The SDS was a nice improvement to my original Aries. I considered upgrading to the new platter and bearing, but when I saw how light the white acrylic platter is compared to the original Aries platter, I lost all interest in t...

ARC sp10 MkII tube question
The tube is a 12AT7. The fact that it flashes momentarily when the preamp is switched on does not necessarily mean that it is faulty, but given the apparent age, replacement would be advisable. Please note that a faulty 12AT7 tube would affect bot...
ARC VTM120 Any thoughts?
It is a barking dog in the ARC product line.
So my wife says to me this morning
I guess that's what you get when you listen with your ears instead of relying on the reviewers! Bravo to you.
1970's Audio Research Equipment, worth having?
I will offer a somewhat differing view. I agree with the above comments that the hybrids marked a downturn in ARC products-- at least to the qualities I listen for. I have worked on most of their gear up to the mid-1990s. The best amp they ever ma...
Tube DACs
Although Audio Research is not known for their digital equipment, the DAC 3 MK II is a superlative DAC. It uses 4 6922 tubes and is the best I have had in my system. My dealer loaned me a CD-3 for audition, which bested the DAC 3 in the bass, but ...
DAC attack ?
Don't overlook an Audio Research DAC 3 Mk2. They are a steal for what they go for on Audiogon and they can be modified for even further performance. My modified unit bested the Audio Reserch CD-3, in my system, in all areas except the extreme bass...
