Comments on Mctinosh C500T Preamp
Thanks to those who responded. Your comments are a big help in making my decision whether to buy this unit or not.
Ebay LP Purchases
I have used both EBay and Amazon. I found Amazon to be easier to deal with especially when it comes to returns. BUT, you should remember that what is VG+ or E to you may not match the sellers criterion. I have found that most dealers on line are g...
Balanced or Not
Almarg:Thanks for responding again. I started this thread in the Tech Talk group because I thought it was the more appropriate category for it and I wasn't generating any responses under the Amp/Preamp section. I tried to have the Amp/Preamp threa...
Upscale audio advice
I dealt with upscale audio on NOS 6922's for a BAT phonostage. At first, Kevin recommended the Amperex 7308. As these were going to cost $100.00 each I decided to wait. After a few months, I contacted Kevin again about the 6922's and mentioned tha...
Why do no audio enthusiasts use McIntosh?
To be upfront, I am a Mac enthusiast. I have been for a long time now. Currently, I am using a 2102 tube power amp with a 2200 tube preamp. These two pieces give me liquid sound with plenty of base. I also get wide sound staging great image focus....
Ground Issue
Had the same problem with my MC2102. My dealer told me to install a 3 prong to 2 prong plug adaptor in the power cord. Took the noise away.
Tweaks
I had never heard of the Alan Maher CBF. I went to his website and found that this guy has all kinds of electronic stuff designed to improve sound. I didn't understand anything I read on this site so I am asking now if you guys really like his pro...
Cary pre-amp with McIntosh amp
I have owned a 2102 for the past 7 plus years. IMHO, this is a great amp! Absolute sound made it a product of the year and Stereophile's Sam Tellig raved about it. Not that any of that means anything but it does show that there is some positive fe...
Low level Hum in Phono Signal Path
Thanks for the help, even Bob (acoustat6). I guess that was a little redundant. And, by the way Bob, it's Princeton. Just kidding. Let me bring you up to date. Some of you have asked about my cables. Using Tara Labs ISM cables though out. However,...
12AX7A and AT7 tubes
Just a final update to close this out. I did change out all the 12AX7s and all the 12AT7s in my amp and preamp. Used NOS Mullard CV4024s (12AT7) and Mullard re-issue 12AX7s. (Couldn't afford the NOS Mullard CV4004s). Anyway, bought all this from K...
12AX7A and AT7 tubes
Thanks for the responses. Some of you are asking about what kind of sound I like. I want precise sound, not flabby. I do not want thin highs that lead to listener fatigue. I like full sound stage sound that blooms. I do not want overpowering bass ...
McIntosh MR71 Cable Binding Advice
I had the same problem with a C22 pre amp and Tara Labs cables. Mac said there was nothing wrong with their jacks and that there was no upgrade either. I soldered in a new jack and use supports like those described by Bob Bundus.
Turntable Speed
The power generated in the US is supposed to be 60 Hz by specification. Granted there is a lot of variables to this rule. However, I have been told from several sources that turntable platter speed motors are built to run off of this specification...
Turntable Speed
Yesterday, I borrowed a Clearaudio Synchro and installed it in my system. Using the Clearaudio readout in hertz mode, to get my 'table to run at 33 1/3 rpm, the hertz indicated on the screen is 57.2. Setting the Clearaudio to 60 Hz makes my 'table...
Turntable Speed
I'm beginning to get the idea, now. I did some checking and it does seem to be that most high end turntable manufacturers also have speed controllers as part of their product line. I think that johnbrown has it right. AC motors are not reliably ac...
