Why a digital media player instead of a dedicated computer?
Just to be clear, I am moving away from the SB Touch, but keeping the Logitech Media Server (LMS) infrastructure. I'll be using that with Squeezelite to drive my new DAC via USB 2.0 directly.  Yahoo! :) Erik
Why a digital media player instead of a dedicated computer?
@mapman I did too, but after trying and failing to get my ARC DAC 8 to sound as good as it did in the store I have come to the conclusion that despite the reasonably good Stereophile measurements it was not working as well as I would like. I stron...
Why a digital media player instead of a dedicated computer?
@swampwalker Sorry I do not, however used or NOS Squeezeboxes do come up for sale on Audiogon and Ebay with some frequency. I have been seeing NOS Transporters I was tempted to pick up, but with USB 2.0 outputs becoming standardized, a Touch is a ...
Why a digital media player instead of a dedicated computer?
@tbg There is something inherently wrong with UI designers of JRiver and MediaMonkey.  Very little works as I wold expect it or obfuscates file location and data in such a way as I'm constantly left groping to understand what files I'm working on,...
Why a digital media player instead of a dedicated computer?
I really wish there was a streamer available today I thought delivered good value and features. The Auralic Aries mini for instance is very close, but offers no Android support, and I honestly don't think they'll ever commit to Android. Everything...
Capacitor log Mundorf Silver in Oil
@volleyguy1 Any time there's oxidation there is the potential ( depends on material ) for it acting resistively or like a tiny diode. This can do a lot of things, including limiting the dynamic range at the low end. Musical decay will get cut off ...

@volleyguy1 Sorry I'm not quite ready to let go of them yet, though I should.  I am unpacking and about to create a new listening room so I want to wait until I can re-evaluate the speakers they went into first.

@dgarettsonDave,Great to know!! Would you mind posting this over at the DIYAudio milti-way forum? We’d love to have this info there too. :) I did notice the Clarity MR’s have a little higher ESR than I was expecting. I suspect a lot of the value i...
ok im opening pandoras box here.(treatment vs framed wall art)
+1 for GIK Acoustics. Also, sculpture can act as diffusors. :) If possible, remove the glass or replace with museum quality plexiglass which maintains UV protection but is less rigid, and not as good a reflector. Also, use foam behind the frames to...
Subwoofer hunt
The Q control is very useful, but -1 for using amplifier outs. Gives you very little flexibility. I'd rather have control over the high pass and low pass. The real issue subs face isn't the electronics or the speakers, its' the room. Using a miniD...

Without knowing the actual implementation, they could use a large-ish buffer and then upsample, but these issues have the same limitations as ASRC. The re-clocker has to constantly try to guess the long term stability of the original source clock ...

I kind of hate JRiver, and only moderately despise MediaMonkey.  Something about UI designers who are into music.....they are very odd fellows indeed I think. :) So, no JRiver clones for me. I'll have to stick with Logitech Media Server and variou...

To make some terms more clear, and take them out of vendor-speak we are talking about the differences between Asynchronous USB (A-USB) and Asynchronous Sample Rate Conversion (ASRC).  Usually vendors will call ASRC something like upsampling and re...

I really likes the Ayre CD player and QB9 except when drivwn by a mac.  The Schiit is one of the few dacs that sounds good despite being mac driven.Best,Erik
