Anyone listen to entire albums?
This is easy to answer.  I play albums.  I don’t think I’ve ever just selected a track to play unless I’m listening to a selection on an album I like so much that I replay it in situ and when it’s finished the album play continues.   i grew up i...
Anyone listen to entire albums?
This is an easy question to answer, I listen only to albums. I am habituated to albums having started collecting LPs in 1956. When tape cassettes became popular I got a Nakamichi tape player and began copying LPs to listen that way to save wear on...
Ethernet Cables - what are you using and why?
This is a no-brainer.  Blue Jeans cable is the cable to buy.  If you read their website you will discover that BJC has tested Ethernet cables from other manufacturers and has found that very few cables make their spec. Cat 6 cables might be cat 4 ...
Whats on your turntable tonight?
I love threads like this, though to be honest, I wonder how much anyone actually reads what everyone is listening to. But I will happily take my turn, in part because I haven’t been using my newly restored Bang & Olufsen Beogram 4004 turntable...
How to copy a picture
These instructions presume everyone uses a desktop or a laptop.  Not me, I use my iPad.  I think this is the only forum where I can’t choose a photo from my Photo library.  Goodness, Audiogon, how about making it a lot easier!.
if you had this system, what would you do to make it sound the best you can
Quoting: I bought new Quad ESL's 15 years ago - and I'm keeping them. The 29 series is very smooth and elegant, and build quality is high. The 28 series is brighter, too bright for my taste. YMMV   I quoted ithe 2nd recommendation for Quad ESL-...
Differences in YouTube, Spotify, etc.
I didn’t tally all the responses, but my impression is that when the choice was between Tidal and Qobuz, Qobuz was by far the preferred choice.  I wonder why that is???   Too bad for me, because I prefer Qobuz too.  I have a family option on Tidal...
Handling Heavy Amps
I have this problem too!  For many years I owned a 55 pound Audiomat Arpege and a 51 pound Audiomat Prelude.  Both integrated tube amplifiers.  The Prelude was in my living room audio system and the Arpege in my TV system,  Both Audiomats come wit...
DAC suggestion for PC
I was steered to an Audio Alchemy DDP-1 as a DAC for my mid / hi-end audio system.  An audio guy who sells and installs very very big money system uses its related product the DMP-1 in all his installations.  When people who can’t afford bazillion...
Bananas rule, spades drool. End of discussion.
I vote for regular bananas.  I was using spades for decades between amp and speakers and once in awhile one of the speaker wires would come loose and fall off my amplifier. Recently I finally discovered the reason I was having problems.  It was be...
Bananas rule, spades drool. End of discussion.
I’ve had trouble with spades coming loose.  I finally learned to use channel locks on them.  More recently I discovered that there are different sizes of spades!  I learned that mine are way too big for my binding posts.  The spade prongs are too ...
Bananas rule, spades drool. End of discussion.
I’ll chime in with a comment on this topic.  I had spades for many years and I think one of the two cables would come loose and drop off every couple of years.  It didn’t occur to me that I could use channel locks to tighten them so they wouldn’t ...
Berkeley Audio Design and MQA?
The big question in my mind is not MQA but DSD.  I own a Berkeley Audio DAC Reference Series 2 and there is a lamentable absence of support for DSD.  The Berkeley people deliberately chose not to support it based on purity.  IOW supporting DSD wou...
Guidance for choosing step down transformer for audio gear
attn: millercarbon I could give you a detailed answer, and being practically the only guy here with actual hands on experience from having used one of these things for several decades it would be good solid info. But I just get so sick and tired...
What to expect if I import an amp and preamp from a Japan seller via US eBay
Quite a variety of responses to my inquiry.  Warnings duly noted.  The only one I’m really worried about is the transformer.  I will want to buy something better than what the vendor proposed to send with my amp and preamp.  When I spoke with Geor...
