Turntable Isolation
So the Townshend platform did not solve the footfall issue. Back to square one @travisg Well if you can’t do a wall shelf why not do a hanging shelf attached to the ceiling. I had a few customers who successfully implemented a hanging shelf ...
Townshend Isolation Products.
The Townsend platforms were not beneficial in my system. Underneath my power amps I preferred my Magic Carpet base. With my speakers I preferred a more direct coupling to the floor.
MC-MM-MI CARTRIDGES . DO YOU KNOW WHICH HAS BETTER QUALITY PERFORMANCE? REALLY?
The answer to Raul's OP question seems to be no, nobody knows which cartridge type is inherently "better".  But most of us have an opinion. And that's the sad fact about audio forums - there are so many opinions that are not based on actual liv...
MC-MM-MI CARTRIDGES . DO YOU KNOW WHICH HAS BETTER QUALITY PERFORMANCE? REALLY?
Please offer a mechanism to explain why a “good LOMC suppressed groove noise better than the others”, other than that’s your opinion. No you are wrong. @frogman never said that was his opinion. @frogman posted that this was his experience in ...
Goldmund Studietto repairs
Was in the trade 30 years ago. The JVC motor is more reliable - same motor as used in the JVC QLA75 tt. you can find service manuals for that TT and/or use a JVC QLA75 as a donor. If the Papst motor goes I think you can retrofit the JVC motor but...
Goldmund Studietto repairs
@ptss  The early Goldmund Studio/Studietto used a Papst motor. The later Studio/Studietto uses a JVC DD motor. The tonearm is a dog - you would be better off replacing it with a pivoted arm - much less hassle.
Cartridge mounting woes
@ho249  If the through holes in your cartridge are threaded then you cannot use it with the Empire head shell. The reason is very simple - if you have the Empire shell with captured threaded nut that cannot be rotated and the cartridge is thr...
Which EPA-100 bearings?
@wrm57  my understanding is the silicon nitride bearings produced today have a far truer surface ( in terms of roundness ). In terms of sound - Isamu Ikeda ( Fidelity Research, Ikeda ) always eschewed the use of jewelled bearings, describing the...
Found Great Seller - Plinth for Technics 1200 GAE
That’s a base not a plinth. The plinth is the bit that supports both the platter and tonearm. That's so funny. For those of us for whom English is our first language, a plinth is a base - example being the square base under the greek columns. ...
what kind of grease do I use for my SOTA Sapphire bearing?
It is a very heavy, tacky oil they are using.  Maybe, but if the gentleman has the original inverted bearing with the sapphire cup, then if I recall correctly that bearing used white lithium grease. @fosolitude check with SOTA before you wreck...
A Story about a Defective Signature Platinum
I have some NOS Talisman S and recently when I took them out to have a look at the styli I was shocked by how clean stylus/cantilever interface was compared to current even top of the line cartridges. I could not see any glue at all - the micro r...
A Story about a Defective Signature Platinum
@mijostyn  Given the disappointment of possibly having to write off an $11k a cartridge that you wanted to enjoy for some years, I think your comments have been very even handed and if Mofi follow through you have done a favour for the rest of us...
A Story about a Defective Signature Platinum
It is a shame to see such a anti third party service type, publicly and regularly spread their doubt on the qualities of the end result of the work completed. Say what. Is this self parody or dissociative amnesia. Most of what you posted was d...
A Story about a Defective Signature Platinum
In my view the Distributor should have offered to have the fault evaluated by the factory. If it was a manufacturing fault - then they should come to the party. If they felt it was a user issue then they could stand by their warranty. If I was th...
Did I do a good thing or not?
@islandmandan  @lewm  For Dynvector arms use the markings for the counterweight as per the manual for initial placement then do the fine tuning of the counterweight from there - gently back and forth from there - you'll see when its right from m...
