Do you believe in Magic?
Bryon, I agree with one of your earlier comments: they should just say “we don’t know why it works, but it does.” And then offer a money back guarantee. If you don’t take them seriously, the explanations for these “tweaks” are comic:The time signa...
Is this the END of DAYS for the high end CD player
Wayneker, the bits coming off the CD are the same. Some ripping software, like XLD, allows you to compare a checksum of your rip to a database. Thousands of ripped CDs are checked this way, and the resulting files are bit-for-bit identical (or the...
Is this the END of DAYS for the high end CD player
Wayneker, the CD drive in a computer is capable of retrieving the data on a CD perfectly. Not close to perfectly. Perfectly. Anything less, like a single bit out of place, and the OS you just loaded could be useless. While you can elect to bypass ...
USB reclocker pecking order?
Larry, while I agree with you in principle, the current reality is that a lot of people have DACs that don't have async USB, or don't have USB input at all. For those people, a converter allows them to get sound out of their computer, and a good c...
Why do subs sound bloated or slow?
Marty, you mention in your response that you had your speakers/subs coplanar. That might not actually result in optimal time alignment depending on a number of factors. In particular, if there is EQ on the subs, that can delay the signal by anywhe...
Applying Dynamat to electronics
I used Dynamat Extreme to line the inside of a preamp case. It did a great job damping the vibration of the box, and gave the unit a nice solid heft. I have no idea if it improved the sound though. Putting the Dynamat on the inside kept the unit l...
DAC or Upgrade To MX150 From D2V??
Okay, thanks for the clarifications. I have a couple of suggestions:1) Try dropping the optical and using a coax SPDIF. While optical is theoretically better, the general consensus is that the implementation of optical is worse than coax digital. ...
Why do subs sound bloated or slow?
Shadorne, the flaw in your logic is that a movement of my head is not the same thing as an equivalent movement of the sub. I'm arguing that it is important to get the correct time alignment between the subs and the mains, thus the important parame...
Why do subs sound bloated or slow?
Marty, I don't think the effect I described can be reduced to room interaction because, as I said in my earlier post, I can achieve the same result by adjusting the delay of the mains relative to the subs without physically moving anything.
Why do subs sound bloated or slow?
Stringreen, sub level is certainly important for proper integration, but turning down the level on a misaligned sub won't solve the problem, it will just make it less noticeable (along with the bass).Shadorne, I disagree "that you can't perceive a...
DAC or Upgrade To MX150 From D2V??
I'm guessing that you are running SPDIF from the Sonos to the Anthem and using the Anthem's DAC? Also, you don't say if you are making use of any other features of the Anthem for your 2-channel system (e.g., the crossover, EQ, etc.) The answers co...
Pc to DAC Configuration
Just a little update: My Mac Mini died (being repaired now), so I'm running a 15 ft. el-cheapo USB cable from Staples out to my laptop. It sounds very, very good. I'm using the Wyred 4 Sound DAC-2, which has async USB, so that's probably a factor,...
Why do subs sound bloated or slow?
I currently have my subs next to my mains, slightly forward. They are sensitive to movements of one inch. I can play a passage and it will sound right, but if I move the subs an inch forward or back, and it's out, and stays out if I move it farthe...
Why do subs sound bloated or slow?
I agree that most people don't know how to set up subs properly, but I'm not sure the automatic setup system work any better. They are primarily EQ programs, and do nothing for the transient response. And, frankly, it would be very hard for them t...
DAC with a Balance Control - Does on exist?
Um, yes. Did you miss my earlier post? If you are using Pure Music, you can adjust the balance trim by going to Preferences -> Audio Settings -> Signal Modifiers. You can push the right channel up or down to your liking. Much cheaper than bu...
