Electrical question re dedicated line
Hiend2If you have 2 dedicated lines. Aren't you supposed to have them in the same phase ??To have your gears in 2 lines in opposite phase is highly not recommended. I did this for a long time without realising it. After I corrected it, the sound i...
Power Regeneration - PS Audio
The best thing you can to your power is get 1 or 2 dedicated lines (circuit) for your gears if you haven't already done that. If you run 2 lines, make sure they are the same phase (both lines from the same incoming line(leg). This will do more tha...

Full-function/Phono-only vs. Line + Phono Stage?
Furhter, the Vinyl take a long time to break in. It toke me 3 months to fully breaking it in. I suggest you wait for a used one to save some bucks. I have only seen 2 used ones at this site in the last 6 months and they both went within a day. So,...
Full-function/Phono-only vs. Line + Phono Stage?
I am a vinyl-only type person too. I have an Art Audio Vinyl One phono stage with volume control and I love it. It's warm, dynamic and full sound without lossing detail, very musical and not particularly analitical. Since I bought it, I have repla...

speaker cable and IC's to dim brightness in system
I really agreed with Sean's comments. No interconnects in the world would tame the Krell which is giving you that aggressive sound. Your 802 is one of the very best ever made. The Krell is not the kind of amp that will give you long term satisfact...
subwoofer for Quad 988 electrostatics
The Quad 988 has adaquate bass if the right amp is used with them. I am not familiar with the amps you have. So, I can't comment if it is right for the 988. Adding a subwoofer to the 988 is like mixing a bottle of fine wine with a bottle of coke, ...
Comments on Quad ESL 988?
The lack of "sweetness" of your Quad ESL speakers could be contributed by the type of amp you are using. I have tried many amps with ESL 63. The sweetest of the ones I have tired are the Marantz 8B and the Jadis JA30. The OTL's are also very good ...
Step-up Transformer, what's lost?
G_m_c and Sidssp are right. 65 db gain in your phono should have enough gain for your cartridge.
Step-up Transformer, what's lost?
Consttraveler,I believe you won't be satisfied with step-ups. However, many audiophile use them with satisfaction. I guess it all depends on your expectations. I was not satisfied with step-ups because I knew what the sound quality was supposed to...
Step-up Transformer, what's lost?
I have the ARC SP-8 preamp with a MM phono section for years. I have gone through many step-up transformers including the last one I had (Counterpoint SA-2 Tubed pre-preamp) which I thought was the best of them all. In my opinion, even the best st...
Need advice from OTL experts
Twl,Thanks for your input. You are right, the the input impedance of the T8 is around 100K ohm.blptwp
Maggie 20.1 vs. Quad 989
I have used both and am still using Quad. OTL (Output transformerless) amps work very well with ESL speakers. Check out the Transcendent OTL T-8 mono blocks. They work especially well with Quad speakers.
AR SP 9 hum/amp compatibility question - HELP
It could be what Newbee suggested. I have the SP-8 and it has the banana jacks at the back that should be tightened. If it's not that. Check all your tubes.
