Looking for headphones, any suggestions?
I'd consider some old Stax phones (I have the Lambdas) and you'll still have some room to be your amp (I'd consider the B&K ST202)
Looking for a Little Help...
Search for Wegryzn on the 'gon. I am using his Copper slams with great results and he's quite knowledgable (and reasonably priced).Good luck,
Parallel wiring of subwoofer?
prpixal, this may be a case of do as I do and not do as I say...I take parallel outputs from my preamp and run one through the main amp & full range binding posts & take the other through the Gallo SA (xover, phase control & amp) to the...
Best amp for gallo ref3a speakers
I'm having great results with a MacCormack DNA 0.5 revised to Platinum by SMC Audio. I have also tried (& enjoyed)a Dared VP-300B SET amp (runs out of oomph, but has that SET magic). There was a recent thread on tube amps with the Ref 3's...I'v...
Parallel wiring of subwoofer?
I think it's possible that you may get too much response (amplitude and possible phase issues) in the upper frequencies of the sub. You will have those freq's played through the mains & also through the sub. That's why the subs have a cross ove...
Please help with interconnects
I'm selling my Nordost SPM's in favor of Paul Speltz Anti I/C's. $100/pair, beautifully made and they sound great (and, I think he has a return policy).Just my .02 (but I've always been a bang for the buck kind of guy).
Demo/Used- what would you prefer?
I seem to usually like things that are not so common--that means when I find one, demo or used, I try to jump on it.
Quest for quality pre for my system
I think there is a Supratek balanced model... you ought to look at it.
Help on soundstaging
I'd still go long wall, put drapes or cellular shades on the window (and a similar absorber on the opposite side and you're symmetric again! When you toe in the speakers, a rule of them that I use for smaller rooms (nearfield type situations) is to...
Help on soundstaging
are they on the long wall (my suggestion), the diagonal (some have had great results doing this in problem rooms), or the short wall (where a lot of us begin...)?
RPG - which products have you used?
I used Realtraps for bass (have a rpg diffractal for sound diffusion).
$1,000 to spend on room treatment....
I agree with uppermid.Rives Level 1 costs about what you want to spend. You can tell 'em you want to focus on DIY (that's what I did) and then walk through implementing the design one step at a time (I've been working on mine for 18 months and sti...
cable upgrades , real or rip off
Here's something I suggested to a friend (instead of pushing my own doga): Try an assortment of inexpensive (whatever that means to you) powercords (or any other cable product).Do you hear a difference? If so, explore moving upmarket...otherwise...
