Vintage Receiver: TANDBERG, MARANTZ, or…?
@whipsaw Another Audio Consultants alum here. It is their mention that inspired me to post to this old thread. As you may know, they had stores all over Chicago area. Very high class stores and people. Sadly, to great loss of all Chicago area audi...
Let's hear from Long Time Owners
I am very happy with my 30-yr old Spendor BC-1 speakers and somewhat younger Audiolab integrated amp. I do consider upgrades once in a while, but the sonic difference has never felt worth the price difference. I also don't feel like paying for bea...
Seasoned ears only
I still own Spendor BC1---which was the best speaker I could afford many, many moons ago after determining there was no way Quad ESL's were going to fit in my space. Sure, I have heard meaningfully better speakers since, but never for anything but...
LSA speakers?
Rebbi, What happened? I thought you were all set with the Ohm's? Anyway, good luck, and please post your experience.
Vifa mid-woofer
Does not seem available, at least at a casual check. Which speakers do you have? Most people don't know or care about drivers, but if you search by speaker brand you might be able to find a used one. Probably there are others who are in the same b...
Daedalus
Daedalus_audio: I tried to post this before but it didn't go up?And I was beginning to think you were dissing the questions I asked on 6/22 and 6/23. Can always soothe my feelings with a 2.1 ... -:)Thank you for putting various models in perspecti...
Daedalus
Daedalus_audio: I don't know of anyone who has much experience with all four models. I can try to succinctly and honestly comment on the differences and value of the different models if you'd like? Thanks Lou. Both the offer and the gracious manner...
Daedalus
David: You review of DA-RMa mentions Ulysses, and I get the idea that the latter may be better but also much more expensive. However, Daedalus also offers others in the lineup, like 1.1, 2.1 . Did you look at those? Is anybody here in a position to...
Ohm Walsh Micro Talls: who's actually heard 'em?
Mailman199: I have a set of Zu Druids that will be here Friday. That's the first of my in home shootout. The Gallo 3.1 will be next. I'll keep everyone informed if you are interested.Absolutely, please post your impressions as soon as you have a f...
Are Harbeths really "all that?"
Good thread. I do think Harbeths are great speakers in general, but... (1) You are paying a markup for the brand name.(2) Current exchange rate makes European speakers poor values in general. Therefore if someone can afford and wants to pay for the...
Can you get "bookshelf sound" from a floorstander?
[Editing previous message for typos and adding one clarification:]Much of this debate is interesting and informative enough in its own right, but please remember that OP's budget is $1K USED. Presumably that means speakers that sell/sold for up to...
Can you get "bookshelf sound" from a floorstander?
Guys, especially Bobby, Some this debate os fine, but please remember that OP's budget is $1K. You can start another thread which does not hijack someone's else's.
Would you pay to audition speakers
I would pay for real service - eg, if the dealer brought speaker to my home, set it up etc.I would also pay "rent" if I needed to evaluate them at my home for an unusually long time.If he loaned them to me for a few days and I had to carry and set...
Ohm Walsh Micro Talls: who's actually heard 'em?
Rebbi - Hang in there my friend and remember, First Things First. So take care of your family and yourself. The next most important thing is audio, :) and we shall look forward to when you can return to it.
If you could do a blind shootout...
Proac, Harbeth, Dynaudio, Tyler, GMA, Daedalus, and of course Ohm. :)
