Reviving this thread from the dead...Just had the opportunity to listen to the LS-28 pre and VT-80 amp powering Focal Sopra 3’s. No special cabling and the feed was Tidal from an iPad headphone out (seriously...). Simply outstanding soundstage (br...
Amps/Preamps for Rockport Aviors
I've heard two different Rockport speaker pairs at the Sound Environment in Omaha, NE  (don't laugh, this is a top shelf store.  There  is a very surprising amount of disposable income in Omaha). They were the Lyra and Cygnus.  Lyra's were powered ...
Any Rotel love around here? Looking to power my Sonus Faber Olympica 3
A buddy just bought a pair of Olympica 3’s. He has a Marantz 8802A pre and JC1 mono blocks powering them. It’s a nice setup. You need to make sure the Rotel can handle a 4 ohm load (not sure) as the O3’s are 4 ohms. I’ve had a Rotel receiver before...
You want the TRUTH from those Wilson Alexia's, maybe you can't handle the TRUTH
I’m currently using my SAE 3100 amp for my front L&R as my multichannel amp has been going bonkers on me (it’s in time out). Bought it in 1981 used. Still cranks out the sound through my ATC SCM 19 v2’s which are not efficient by any measure.I...
RMAF 2016 "No Schiit?"
well Schitt, I am in the market right now for a new amp for my front L&R ATC SCM 19 v2's.  Not sure I want to wait until January...hmmm$699 and non-class D?  Hope is sounds good as I think two of those would drive the 84 db-W-m (in)efficient A...
B&k 200.2 , audio research 100.2 . Parasound a21 . Which one to buy?
The Marantz is fine as a pre/pro for music.  If you aren't happy with the onboard DACs, just have your CD/SACD player do the work and use the "pure direct" or "direct" feature.  This feature takes the Marantz out of the picture, so to speak, and d...
My 50W, 8ohm amp can't drive my 86db, 4ohm speakers? WTF??
Oddly enough, my Arcam P1000 (135w/ch x 7) soft on/off circuit took a dump so I had to drag out my 1982 vintage SAE 3100 (50w x2) to drive my ATC SCM 19 v2's.  So far I'm not experiencing any issues like tboooe has.  The ATC's are power eaters too...
Marantz Pre-Pro Glitch
Hmmmm...I got nothing.Try the reset procedure I described above.  If that doesn't work, try AVS forums.  They have dedicated forums to pretty much every Marantz pre pro
Marantz Pre-Pro Glitch
Swap HDMI cables out and see if that fixes the problem. Also, by unplugging the Marantz for 10 minutes and then plugging it back in the system does a reset.  Sometimes that works to fix issues on my Marantz 8801 pre/pro.
Great multichannel amps do not cut it in stereo
I find myself (possibly) looking for a good new (to me) multi-channel amp for my HT.  My Arcam P1000 lost the auto muting circuit so it's heading to the repair shop to get looked at.  If the repair costs are substantial, I'll be in the market for ...
Rockport Altair matching amplifier?
Only a year late to the thread, but Rockports need some room to breathe, don’t they? I heard the Altairs at the Sound Environment in Omaha, NE, and they were driven by a set of beautiful D’agostino pre and power amp. Speaker cables were transparen...
RMAF - Loudspeakers that you don't want to miss
I'd love to hear people's reactions to 'full range' type speakers in the $2k-$4k range. Specifically, narrow boxes like the Revel F206/F208, Sonus Faber, etc., as that's the type/size that will work with my listening space placement issues. Driven...
Mcintosh MC275 vs Marantz 8/8b
I had the pleasure of hearing a worked over 8b today. Simply awesome sound. So rich and complete. I'm a solid state guy and it takes a bit to 'wow' me, but the 8b was 'wow' worthy. Simply exceptional.
