Pass Labs:What to expect fm XA60.5 to XA100.5
My current amp is an Aleph 60W/ch. It has plenty of power for my Avantgarde Duo's. If I upgrade then I will probably go with the XA60.5's.
Pass Labs:What to expect fm XA60.5 to XA100.5
I am curious as to which amp you chose. Assuming that your speakers have a 90dB efficiency rating. You would only need about 1 Watt/channel to drive them to around 80dB at 3 meters so the XA60.5 should provide all the power that you need. See the ...

Review: Jim Smith Home Consultation & Set Up Speaker
I have alway wondered what happened between Avantgarde and Jim Smith. His leaving seems to have been a big loss to them.
Anyone Hear New Ohm Walsh MKIII driver upgrades?
I have not heard them. I have a pair of Ohm Walsh 300's. I think they are the Mark 1 version. I bought them back in 99 and have used them in my two channel system since that time. The Ohm's imaging is great. To my ears the speakers sound very bala...
Problems with ABKCO Rolling Stones Hybrid SACD's?
One more update. There is a switch on the back of my amp for normal two channel and bridged mono operation. The switch was not fully in the two channel position. Everything is working great now. My tunes have never sounded better.
Problems with ABKCO Rolling Stones Hybrid SACD's?
Thanks for your responses. Troubleshooting today has isolated the problem to channel two of my amp. It is a weird frequency response type of failure. I didn't originally suspect the analog portion of my system because it sounds fine on almost ever...
tube pre for bryston
I have had good results driving a Bryston 4BST with a SF Line 3. I am using the combination to drive a pair of Ohm Walsh 300 speakers.
Time coherence - how important and what speakers?
I want to make an empirical observation about my Ohm Walsh 300's. They sound good to me no matter where I am in my apartment. I give their coherent sound credit for this. The only complaint that I have is that they won't play loud enough for some ...
Does anyone own the Pass Labs X1 preamp?
Gotta put a plug in in for the SF Line 3. It doesn't sound at all grainy to me. Not saying that it is the best tube preamp but it definitely is on the short list of the most for the money tube preamp. The only complaint that I have is that it does...
Tubes Do It -- Transistors Don't.
I bought a used SF Line 3 back in the spring of 2000. The only negative comment that I have is that you can clip the front end. The BAT pres may have an edge here. However; this is not a real problem in my experience. I use the Line 3 in combinati...
Did you see the BAT VK51SE ?
I've checked out the BAT web site and can find no mention of a VK51SE upgrade. That said the plain jane VK50SE looks like one of the best pre-amps out there. I am very curious about how it stacks up against the Sonic Frontiers Line 3. One place wh...
From tubes to solid state
Bishopwill's post supports the proposition that a tube amp acts like an equalizer with gain instead of a pure gain stage. If the transfer function of the tube amp is determined then it should be posible to design a solid state implementation which...
Tube Pre amp or Solid Pre Amp
I am using a Sonic Frontiers Line 3 to drive my Bryston 4B ST. Overall, I am very pleased with the results. From what Tfalls writes it sounds like the Bryston 25 will work fine as well. A check of the ads shows that a used Line 3 can be had for ar...
Why are there so many unopened amps, ect for sale?
I have wondered about this myself. If a person bought something new from a dealer and did not open the box then could he not return the unit? Worst case I would think that he would only be out shipping costs.I guess this isn't always true as I jus...
