What speakers for 10k?

Looking to buy the end of game speakers, currently I have Vienna Acoustics Mozart Grand. My amp is the Parasound a21 with the Parasound p5 pre amp, Marantz sa8001 sacd and the Marantz sr5001 avr, psa xs15se sub. My budget is 5 to 10k on main speaker upgrade.

Yeah it never seems to end does it? my wife just shakes her head and says I thought you were done buying speakers 5 sets ago? I've had a parade of speakers come threw my house in the past 20yrs, and I'm sure its not going to end anytime soon. anyone interested in my stiff breeze? I'm sure I'll be looking to sell those in the next 6 months or year(lol).
Room size is 16 by 19 and will be used for 80% music and 20% ht. at that kind of money I'm looking for new. and to answer zd542s question the end of game speakers means never feeling the need to buy another pair of speakers again.
Yeah maybe? but I did the same with my amp and pre amp and don't feel the need to upgrade on those, since my ears are use to the sound of Vienna's I've thought about upgrading to the Vienna Acoustics Beethoven Grand's.
After seeing the money that can be saved buying used I'm fine with buying used, I did find some Beethoven Grand's for 2800 in mint condition with boxes and manuals, I believe they retail at 5k. and I'm sure my a21 can handle this speaker with ease. Has anyone heard the Beethoven compared to the Mozarts? or maybe I could find an internet seller that does a 30 day in home trial with free shipping both ways? the only place I can go to listen to different speakers is Chicago and that's a 3 hour drive.
I agree those vapor derechos look sweet! I sent that company an email to see if they offer in home trial.
The Beethoven's are the latest design, I'll see what I can find for used Mahler's and look into them more.
The Beethoven's are 5 years old, I don't think they are the se version, they do have the spider cone drivers. I'm liking what I'm reading about the Mahler's but not finding any used? these are 15k new I believe?
I do have a line on some Baby Beethoven's at local stereo store and they will buy my Mozarts from me, and they do offer an upgrade policy. If I keep speakers looking and functioning new with all packing they will give me full value on speaker to upgrade. this might be the route to go, I can trade speakers every 7 or 8 months and learn what I like and don't like about the different va's.
Yeah the baby Beethoven's are brand new, I don't think that's the speaker I'll stay with or it might be? but it would be fun to take advantage of the speaker upgrades.
I'm really starting to like what I'm seeing and reading about vapor audio, anyone have any experience with these speakers?
Not so sure about the maggies they kinda remind me of a class d amp. I'm really getting interested in the vapor still breeze for some reason, and they are 3500 plus 500 for the stands. I don't usually look at bookshelf speakers but at 48 pounds a piece they hardly seem like a bookshelf.
Yes the nimbus is a sexy looking speaker! would love to hear how it sounds. have you owned these speakers? if so what did you think of them?
I know if you don't have them made custom you have a 60 day in home trial, which is always the ideal way to audition a speaker, so if I do like them I could always send them back to get more bells and whistles added. after talking with Pete at vapor audio he seems to think that the breeze would be an upgrade from my VA Mozarts, and at 2k with in home trial whats to lose? but like I said idk about bookshelf speakers? or maybe they might be perfect because I have the psa xs15se sub that hits the lows with authority!
I'm thinking the same thing, buy some less expensive speakers and use the rest of the money for other parts of my system. and I can remember my first system was a little 60 watt 2 ch adcom amp with an adcom pre amp with a set of Boston acoustic hd9 speakers. and I got a lot of joy outta that system. I think it would be a lot more fun trying different speakers every few years, and get back to having fun with it instead of over thinking it.
yep that's why I think I'm going to go with vapor audio's breeze, its not expensive at all and I get the feeling along with the thunder of my sub it's the sound I'm looking for. usually don't go with bookshelf speakers but whenever I look at other speakers I go back to the breeze, just something about the look and design, the only way I heard them was on a youtube video, and they sounded good over my cheap lap top.
Yeah I know you don't judge a speakers sound by a you tube video, but I would not judge a speakers sound at a dealer or a friends house. ill judge the sound in my room with my equipment. I think the breeze or stiff breeze would be an upgrade over the VA Mozart's, and dealing with custom speakers idk if you can return them if you don't like their sound. so maybe in this case it might be wise to go small then go bigger if I feel the need.
I'm going to go with the stiff breeze for now and if I feel the need to upgrade I'll take a more serious look at their higher offerings. I think at some point I'll end up with the Nimbus just love the looks of that speaker, and the 15 inch driver in it makes me wonder if I would ever need to run any subs with these speakers? and so far their customer service is excellent, and good customer support is what sold me on Parasound and psa subs. I'm going to place my order Monday, so it'll be at least a month give or take till I get them, but until then id sure like to hear about anyone's experience with vapor.
Yeah maybe you're right about the wait, I'm in no big hurry anyway. how do the breeze or the stiff breeze do with music like tool nine inch nails avenged sevenfold? I would think the stiff breeze would handle that type of music better than the breeze would?
Really you think the breeze will handle that type of music ok? because I can get the breeze right now, not in the color I would like but it could give me a good idea of the sound they produce, and then I could get what im really eyeballing, the nimbus. But yeah you're right custom speakers and stands are worth the wait.
Yeah vapor told me the same thing that the stiff breeze would handle my musical taste better, and offered to send me the breeze to tide me over until they had my stiff breeze ready. sounds like a good deal to me.
without hearing a vapor speaker I don't want to spend to much at first, just wanna get a taste of their speakers and go from there. the stiff breeze is the upper half of the nimbus and if I don't like it I don't think id have much problem selling them. And I agree the Nimbus is sexy as hell!
I agree, and wavetouch audio does offer a 40 day in home trial, I just have to pay return shipping. The owner of the company is confident that his speakers will outperform my VA Mozart's and I wont return them. what's to lose? nothing since there is a in home trial. 2k is far from 10k but who knows what they sound like? they might go toe to toe with speakers 2 to three times their cost.
Yep like I said they offer a 40 day in home trial, and I understand the audio world is like everything else with the offer of snake oil. if someone says their speaker is better than what I have and back it, there is no harm in taking a listen.
I just found a seller a few hours away from me looking to sell some VA Acoustics Beethoven concert grand's in mint cond for 2k and I have a buyer for my Mozarts who will give 1k. I'm going to jump all over this!
Yeah how can I pass it up? I know what VA's sound like, and I don't know if the Beethoven Grand will sound any different than the Mozart's. but there will be more of it! if all goes well and my speakers sell ill get the Beethoven's for 1k plus the time and gas of a 4hr round trip drive.
The Beethoven's are on ebay and have been for a while, and the price is actually 2750, local pickup only up near Chicago. Not sure why seller wont ship? he has all original boxes.
I think I'm going to give wavetouch gt se a try, with the 40 day in home trial it is a no brainer. how well do you guys think they'll do with my Parasound a21 and p5? and Marantz sa 8001 sacd?
The WAVETOUCH speaker's will be here today, according to the fedex tracker. so I'll give you my first impressions this pm. After_Hrs I like that nickname MAGNA-VOICE, but I also like WHIZZER-CONE!
Who knows if the wavetouch will be my last speaker? I haven't received it yet, I'm taking advantage of the 40 day in home trial and giving it a shot. so I'm still open to any and all suggestions. any opinions on floorstanders vs bookshelfs?
ordered the wavetouch se and I should have them in about 10 more days, if they don't meet my standards I have a 40 day in home trial, so nothing to lose.
Yeah I'm real excited about these speakers, with the VA's I guess I new what kind of sound I was going to get probably the same as the Mozart's just more of it.
ok? so lets get back to talking about speakers! if I do end up liking the wavetouch does anyone have any suggestions on a nice pair of stands?
Yeah I know, the wavetouch isn't a pretty speaker but it is unusual looking looks are important but not as important as sound. this is just an audition and the speaker may not be my bag anyway.
Not sure if its the same tweeter? but I have no experience with ribbon tweeters. and I don't think they look that bad either, unusual for sure. but they look very solid and interesting. and with my amp and the 94db sensitivity I would think my amp would be in class a most of the time.
Wavetouch sent pictures of the progress with the se I ordered in a high gloss black, this is the first time they have done this color, and they are running them for 150 hrs to break them in. so I should have them sometime next week. it has been a long time since I have been truly excited to get some different speakers, I just hope I'm not building them up for a let down.
Yeah along with gaming threw the ps4, but 80% of the time is music. and with gaming I usually wear a headset because I do a lot of online gaming. cod of course. but I think they'll be fine with ht, but then again I could care less about the sound from ht.
zd542, actually I was talking about the Chicago Cubs trying to change the subject. no disrespect was intended. Yeah bam wavetouch sent pictures of the speaker in high gloss black which they had to dye the wood to get them that way, and they look much better than the light wood color. with my set up the light color would've stuck out like a sore thumb!
The audio world in general is bs isn't it? with the offer of snake oil. put these 2k isolators under your speakers and bass will tighten, voices will be crisp. a battery pack on a speaker cable sound familiar? it must work people spend 10k on this wonderful new tech. I think these shitty little monitors I bought are going to be fine, and if not I return them for a full no questions asked refund.
Audioconnection, I own AQ jags, k12 and mont blanc cables I've pulled battery packs off and heard no difference. I've had isolation for speaker spikes made no difference, and I'm sure this junk wavetouch speaker will make no difference either. at what point does it become status? look at me and what I got. wonder what kind of deals on speakers radio shack will be having?
The AQ cables I got a great deal on threw a local stereo store closing shop, the mont blanc I paid 200 for them and would have never considered paying the original 2k price tag. and I have unplugged battery pack and never heard the diff. and how does anyone know if WT is legit or not without hearing them? they offer a 40 day in home. comes down to track record, did apple have a track record? or what about Microsoft and this windows idea?
And that's what attracted me to these speakers is the unusual look and the claims on the speakers performance.so it made me want to hear them for myself, and I hear what everyone's saying because I have my doubts also, but willing to give them a shot. I'm out nothing if they don't meet my standards, except a trip to the post office to return them.
Yeah buddy! just got an email from wavetouch, speakers will ship sat, so I should have them sometime next week. let the breast enlargement begin. Yay!
