problems with Thule cd player

A couple of years ago my Thule spirit 100 cd player began exhibiting seemingly bizzar behavior with it ultimately not recognizing any cd in the tray. Just for the heck of it last week I took it out of storage and hooked it up and lo and behold it was working and sounded fine. After about 90 minutes the same problem occured. I'm wondering if replacing the laser pick up assembly might solve the problem. I believe it is a Philips CDM12.4 or is it likely to be something else. Thanks in advance to all who respond
