Never too lake for massing stands
Set up a small casita system with Rega Apollo R CD player, Sugden A21SE amp and ATC 7 monitors on cheap 32" stands. Used dampening tape liberally to knock down the stand ring. Speaks on Herbies Fat Dots. Didn't want 50lbs. stands.
And still really bright. Now what? Well, enough (8 cups total) left over sand/shot material from previous stand massing and viola!
Sometimes the low tech approach still works. I was amazed at how aggressive the sound was even with damping tape before fixing it with the sand/shot material. All is now controlled and did not kill the dynamics of the system..
