About Lugnut -- Patrick Malone

Many of us have come to know Patrick Malone (Lugnut) as a friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and kind individual. He is a frequent and enthusiastic contributor to our analog discussion forum. He has initiated only 17 threads, but responded to 559 threads. I would guess that many, if not most, of us can recall a time when Pat replied with helpful advice to a question we posted or helped us track down a rare recording. I have come to love Pat as a friend, and to respect him as a man, and I suspect many of you share those feelings.

Today I write to share difficult news with you. Pat has been diagnosed with an aggressive stomach cancer. It has yet to be determined whether surgery will even be worth it. If surgery is performed, most or all of the stomach will be removed, and Pat would face a difficult and long post-op period in the hospital. The medical course is still uncertain, but will be determined soon. Whatever is decided, it will not be easy or pleasant.

Something may be planned in the future to assist the family. For now, Pat could use some of the friendship he so often and willingly showed us. You can email Pat at: [email protected]. You can also mail cards, letters ... or whatever. You may email me for Pat's mailing address. My email is: [email protected].

I hope to spend a few days with Pat in Idaho or Nebraska (from which he hails) soon. Between this news, my legal work, getting ready for family arriving for the holidays, Audio Intelligent, and trying to make plans to visit Pat, my head is spinning. If you email me and I don't respond, please understand that I am not ignoring you, but rather simply do not have time to reply.

Pat may or may not have time to respond to posts here, to emails, or to cards mailed to him. But he has asked me to convey to each and every one of you that he has cherished your friendship, your comradery, and sharing our common hobby on this great website.

As we prepare for our holiday season celebrations, and look forward to -- as we should -- enjoying this time of year, I ask that you keep Pat and his family in mind ... and softly offer up, in quiet moments in the still of night and early morning, prayers for Pat and his family. God bless.

Warmest regards to all,
Paul Frumkin

Pat,

I just wanted you to know my thoughts and prayers are with you. Knowing your wife will keep the music going makes me smile, let the music help. Don’t worry about being a wimp, just think about getting well. God bless.

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year.

Joe
Pat,

Hope all is going well, you are in my prayers.

Ready to talk about that rack now?

Joe
OK all, Pat emailed me the picture of he and Steve and Paul. I'm going to try and get a small copy here, and put a link to the full-size one. To quote Pat:

Steve (Vetterone) Dobbins is on the left side and is the tallest guy, I'm in the middle and Paul is one the left

And here is the link:

The Boys

Thanks Pat.
Hi all,

Here is the link to another picture, this time

He finally include Barb!

This one was just before the surgery too. Keep 'em coming Pat, I've got plenty of room for them.

Keep the faith,

Joe
Pat,

You better make it to Miami! It is going to be big fun. And no ties allowed.

Joe
Pat,

Glad to hear you remain in good spirits despite the setback. You give us all a lot to think about.

I just bought the Coltrane album off ebay for you. It should be here in a couple of days, and I'll get it out to you ASAP. It's new, SS, but I think I need to give it one listen before it goes out. The message seems to strong to ignore.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and Barb.

Joe
Hi Pat,

Just wanted to let you know I got a copy of the book today. I'm going to read it this week, then listen to the album again. Should be interesting!

I'll be thinking of you and Barb. Keep the faith.

Joe
Hi Pat,

I was just sitting here listening to a little Coltrane tonight and was wondering how everything is going. I hope you are feeling well and keeping your spirits up! Sounds like Dallas was a great trip.

Let us all know how you are doing.

Joe
Hi guys,

Since you all liked the picture of Patrick, I thought I would move the ones I posted before to this page.

The first one is Barb and Pat

The second one is Pat with two mystery guests!

Some of you know who the other two are, I'm going to make the rest guess!

Joe
Pat,

Just wanted to check in and say my thoughts and prayers are still with you. Hope everything goes well today.

Joe
Hi Pat,

I've always got time for a little DIY project, send it! I'm still screwing around with some solid surface/wood combo plinths. They have certainly been interesting, but still have not improved on the first one. I am doing a cocobolo clamp and motor housing, and still haven't finished the damn rack. But like I said, you need something, you got it. Let me know.

Joe
Hi all,

Pat emailed me a picture he would like to share. It shows him with a honkin big smile on his face, having some fun. It's too big to insert here, so go to:

Flyboy!

I'm gonna let Pat fill you in on the details.

Joe
Hi Pat,

Glad to hear you are feeling a little better. Your project is moving, but slowly. Work has gotten a little in the way, but I hope to finish next week. I'll be out of town for several days over the weekend and will email you when I get back.

Keep the faith,

Joe
Pat,

I just logged on to see if you had posted today, and I'm happy to see you seem to be in high spirits. Have a great time in Boise, and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

Joe
Pat,

I know I've been AWOL for about a month, and apologize for not emailing. As you well know, sometimes things that are unavoidable happen and you just have to work through them. I've just caught up on reading this thread, and am so happy to hear you in high spirits. It is great to see you are not slowing down.

Now that I am able to get some things done here, I will be finishing up your project as soon as I can. I feel like a sh**head for not being able to finish sooner. I'l email soon.

As always, keep the faith!

Joe
Pat,

I'm going to try to make it, but with my schedule lately it is going to be tough. I'll keep you udated.

Joe
I've been spending a little time reading and catching up since I haven't spent a lot of time here lately. When I played A Love Supreme last night I was thinking of Pat, and decided I needed to read the whole thread again. I hadn't realized it's been almost 6 years.
