Cartridge Man MM3 vs. ZYX R100 Fuji FS?
I use a MM2 (sans Isolator) with a Roksan Nima unipivot tonearm. My listening is almost exclusively jazz/improvised music. All I can say is that I think I know music when I hear it and this combo enthralls, delights and makes it difficult for me to...
What phono stage candidates should I consider?
Adog,I've just visited Graham Tricker's website (gtaudio.com) and, yes, you're right, the "PhoNote" phono preamp that I auditioned is indeed different (but similar), so apologies for suggesting otherwise. However, it does retail for 1500 pounds an...
What phono stage candidates should I consider?
Adog,Here in the UK (where Tron is based), a moving magnet version is available.
What phono stage candidates should I consider?
Hi Larryi,For the record (sorry), I use a MusicMaker moving-iron cartridge. The dealer to whom I returned the Tron preamp suggested that some sort of system incompatibility was to blame for my dislike of the Seven. To me, that's just hogwash - the...
What phono stage candidates should I consider?
I too have auditioned the Tron 7 and, whilst it is extremely quiet (for a tube design) and creates a voluminous soundstage, it just didn't make music in my system. In fact, the music produced by the much cheaper Lector Phonoamp (also a zero feedba...
Zenn record cleaning machine. Anybody experienced?
Hi Dickson,I'm thinking of buying this machine. You say that MOST of the liquid is collected - so how much is spilled? I don't want to have to clean records in a cold garage/workshop during the winter months.Another concern is that the manual clea...
Deep bass response of Audio Note 2.1x Balanced DAC
Mama,If what you say has any foundation in reality, then there's something seriously awry with your system. The nature of your response suggests to me that you've never heard an Audio Note DAC 5, let alone owned one.
Which cables go with what?????
Audioengr, ALL cables have a sonic signature, just as ALL electronic components have a sonic signature. It's simply a matter of choosing a collection of components that, to YOUR ears, do least damage to the music. I'm all for applying sound scient...
Which cables go with what?????
Nrchy, I didn't accuse Audioengr of "pushing his own cables". I'm just questioning whether it's appropriate for a manufacturer (and most of us know about Audioengr's products) to start such a thread. Self-promotion can take more or less subtle for...
Which cables go with what?????
Audioengr fails to acknowledge that cables are components too! Of course, your amplifier must have enough power to drive your speakers and, similarly, there shouldn't be an impedance mismatch between your source component(s) and preamp, or preamp ...
Which cables go with what?????
Audioengr, you may have had an "illustrious" career in the "computer business" but your premise that audio cables are either neutral or coloured is just bunk. NO audio component, passive or otherwise, can be completely transparent. If you take two...
Turntable - Where do I start ?
I strongly recommend Bluenote turntables and tonearms. I used to own an Avid Acutus/SME IV (a very expensive setup) but, to my ears, even the entry-level Bluenote gear is FAR more musical, if not as sonically 'impressive' on first hearing.
Power cord recommendation needed
I listened to the FIM Gold speaker cable and found it warm and slow. Sorry, but I can't understand what all the fuss is about. IMO, the Acoustic Zen Satori is far more accurate and musically involving. The sound is just so palpable. Prior to AZ, I...
Any good.... JPS
It's all very well being full of enthusiasm for a product, but, as Samuel said, statements such as 'product x bests products y and z in all areas' are meaningless, if not dubious. Reviewing hi-fi components is a difficult business and IMO the bigg...
