Loudspeakers have we really made that much progress since the 1930s?
Music instruments are pretty much what they have always been. And there’s the Stradivarius (and many other) fetishes for vintage stuff that supposedly was never bested. In audio, and particularly speakers, many fundamentals are extremely similar si...
Should I buy a Class A Amp.
Listen for yourself. My personal opinion - if you like silky mellifluous middles, do it. And get some Harbeths while you’re at it. :-)If you like an analytical, sharper delivery - don’t. And IMHO the new Hypex modules beat everything else when it c...
dumb question, streaming music to a preamp?
you could score a used Squeezebox Classic 3. it has a decent built-in DAC, you can find them for $80 on ebay, and the software is free. it does have a spotify app. there are also raspberry pi based versions of it.
Best Integrated, period.
...mine would be Accuphase or Musical Fidelity, because i like solid state resolution and neutrality, but don't want things *too* digitally sharp. i am sure there are others, but i know those offer great quality and a philosophy i like. but that's...
Squeezebox Touch not diplaying some music files
it once happened to me and it happened to be missing file extensions (.mp3) that amazon forgot to append for a few days.
Benchmark DAC2 HGC
with respect - i disagree. i did own the DAC1 and i sold it to a friend because it sounded far less musical that the DP65v acting as a DAC. i could not adjust to the sound. with the DAC2 i immediately could - *more* detail but revealed in a playfu...
Reference DACS: An overall perspective
fascinating read - to get such a long perspective on digital evolution.i bought my first "great" cd player in... 1990? it was a denon 1290 (and not my first CD player). honestly, i got hands down better sound than i got from available (halfway aff...
Benchmark DAC2 HGC
I should also state that -imo- the Banchmark DAC2 provides so little coloration and such a degree of resolution that it is the rest of the chain you will be hearing - your power amp and your speakers will be the gatekeepers. I was just hearing the...
Benchmark DAC2 HGC
Yeah they pose a big challenge.I have some excellent solo cello recordings by Gabriel Lipkind, and many Bach and Pachelbel recordings. And Debussy's La Mer. I can say I wholeheartedly enjoy them. I get geometric staging from well recorded orchestr...
Amplifiers:A Keeper for Life. Do you know of one ?
Geez. Amps are a very personal statement - to me, they are the master moderators between source and speaker, so their effect is profound, and finding a happy long term partnerships with an amplifier or a pair of speakers is a rare blessing - like ...
KEF LS50
i have totally re-engineered my system around these fabulous performers. the KEF LS50 are already a legend - an incredible bargain.due to changes in my life, i had to downsize in general, and hence come up with a smaller system. my old system (acc...
Kef LS50 vs. Emerald Physics CS3 mk2
i got the LS50 for a system in another room. they are so amazing that i got rid of my $12k tower speakers in my main listening room and put the KEF on stands. i did add a musical, tight sub, but keep the volume at 10% as to not distort the fluid t...
