How good is the Obsidian plinth of Technics SP10 ?
Nothing really wrong with the Obsidian base. Many love it. BTW it is very heavy plastic composite not solid rock or glass. It is extremely dense, heavy, and well damped and has no obvious resonance--it feels more like rock than anything else. Many...
Is Stax headphone still in business
It's a bit unfair to compare SR-80, Stax's lowest end model long since out of production, to Sennheiser HD650's.Stax hasn't made a self-charged electret model headphone in a long time. Electret headphones have internal charge. This usually require...
Bass traps: RPG Modex Corner vs ASC Tube Traps vs?
RPG Modex Corner come in 3 frequency ranges, which makes me think that if I get the low frequency (50Hz) version, it will abosorb 50Hz better than the full range less tuned bass traps like Real Traps Mondo Corner.Having trouble comparing the specs...
Class D vs Class A Education
You can buy green electricity in various ways, build your own solar roof, or buy Green Power from electric utility (I buy 100% Windtricity from CPS Energy), or get WindBuilder credits from Native Energy. Then you can run Class A amplifier without ...
Krell FPB 600c 700cx 400cx Heatsink noises.
I have just now tried the solution being described here, loosening all the external bolts on my Krell FPB 300. All by hand (no torque wrench) I set them all to a snug but not hard torque. If anything, the noises have gotten worse. It's a pity there...
Questions about room size and speaker choice
Foam speaker suspensions wear out the most quickly, 5-10 years (don't expect 10 years without climate controlled environment). But often easily replaced, replacement kits can be ordered online for some popular speakers (JBL). Butyl rubber gets har...
Krell FPB 600c 700cx 400cx Heatsink noises.
I'm back trying to get the noise out of my fpb 300 again. Loosening screws often seems to help. But which, if any, of the outside screws on the left and right side heatsinks actually attach semiconductor devices? I'm not sure I'd want to mess with...
The Hub: How about a dedicated listening CHAIR
The audiophile world definitely needs an audiophile chair. But no shakers or built-in anything like that are needed. Just a comfortable chair with swivel and recline and/or rock. BUT, THE BACK HEADREST MUST BE THIN, ENTIRELY BEHIND THE HEAD, NOT C...
Behringer Crossover for Maggies vs Bryston
One of the best crossovers around is the Behringer DCX 2496. It does all crossovers, parametric EQ, delay, and lots of other things in the digital domain, so they are as perfect as they can be. If you are starting with a digital signal anyway, it ...
Krell FPB 600c 700cx 400cx Heatsink noises.
I'm glad to see this discussion. My Krell FPB 300 (not c or cx) was quite noisy. Whenever the music got softer for a bit, I'd hear the ping (or as I called it, klink). I figured that loosening all the bolts would help and was surprised when when a...
Review: Threshold 400a Amplifier
Thanks for review. I was trying to remember the specs on Threshold 400 and 4000. I worked at a store where they were sold, and a good very friend of mine bought a 4000, and another guy I know had an 800. I've also always wondered what Nelson meant...
