Does USB quality matter when ripping CDs?

Most of my music lives on external hard drive and is plugged into Oppo 105D. Replaced cheap USB cable with Supra 2.0. Amazing difference in playback. I need to make a copy of this hard drive for safety. This means 2 external hard drives hooked to laptop. I only have 1 Supra USB. Does USB quality matter when moving data from one hard drive to another? Or does it only matter for playback. I don't want to copy 2tb of files and do it wrong. Should I get a second cable for archiving?

Thanks,

... you mentioned ripping, which is different than copying ...

It is?

What's the difference?

USB audio connection cares about electrical "cleanliness", is feeding a DAC thats doing D/A conversion. File transfers aren't that sensitive, for most of us speed is what matters so a bog standard USB 3.x cable connection will get a copy done far faster than a USB 2.0 cable.
