do it yourself amp

I have a science background, but not electrical engineering type stuff per se. I thought it might be interesting to try building an amp. Does anyone know of a resource, or more specifically a book, that would detail the basics including what tools would be needed?

Try www.aksa.com for solid state kits or do a web search for nelson pass amp designs. I have never done myself but hear about them often in a positive light. Good luck.
Bottlehead has very nice kits available, with excellent sound. In my system, the Bottlehead amp sounded much better and was even quieter than a $1000 tube amp. The amp posted in my systems pages was my first DIY project as well.

Take a look at:

If you are more into Solid State, I would recommend Nelson Pass' websites:

Enjoy!
