Analog or Digital and why?
Vinyl was supposed to be dead in the 80s when the cd came out.In the 90s when Dvds came out.in the 00s when Napster and other sharing services were king.In to 10s when streaming services and HD streaming got big.Reports ov vinyls death are greatly...
Analog or Digital and why?
Suppose you, meaning everyone, have everything in your system the way you want it--amps, preamp, stands, power, cables, speakers, subs, the room. But, you need a source, a front end---don’t have one at all, have to start fresh, don’t even have a...
Analog or Digital and why?
Analog.I've been buying records since the 70's, and have always concentrated on early/first pressings, and will upgrade to better condition or earlier pressings whenever I have the opportunity.I've got over 3000 records, and whenever the "Latest/G...
Soundstage gone
try reversing the polarity on one speaker.  if the Soundstage goes back to normal, your cartridge is miswired.
Ok now I am frustrated with streaming
Get a second cable hookup and use it just for streaming.
What's your "diminishing returns" preamp choice?
Ok, so I still gauge diminishing returns against a venerable preamp I bought in the early 80's, the DB Systems 1b/2a/4b.  I've had it updated twice.  Other than a brief stint with tubes, it's my reference preamp.  The only reason I'm not using it ...

@chakster I'm not upset I bought the 444 in 79, and I'm not at all upset I traded it in.  Audiophilia is a journey, and I'm extremely happy with the musical enjoyment I've gotten out of my system over the years.I don't need, or even want two tonea...

@chakster Old enough to recognize your response is indicative of someone who’s world view is being attacked. The facts are I owned a pd-444, I heard something significantly better, and I bought it. Sorry this doesn’t fit your world view.TBS can be ...
Need some turntable guidance
I owned a PD-444 back in the late 70s and early 80s.  I attended a listening session at a local dealer in the early 80s that featured the Luxman, a Logic DM101, an Oracle Delphi and a Michell Gyrodec, all with the same arm and cartridge. It wasn't ...

Thanks. That sounds easy enough that maybe even I can do it.

I'd like to hear more about your DIY speed controller.  How did you do that?
