MA7000 overkill for B&W 805D's??
Agree, the MA7000 would be nice with the 805Ds. But, why not try something different upstairs, just for the fun of it?
7 months in and still loving these...
Indeed, fabulous speakers. I auditioned a pair of IB2i for hours on end, trying to figure a way to rationalize putting them in my (admittedly) simply too small and tightly configured listening space. I had to pass, as they just wouldn't fit. But s...
Pass Labs Point 8 Series info
Kiddman's post is spot-on and well said.
Small Monitors and Book shelves for Rock Music?
Linn Katan, is a great value and will do what you want. That said, knowing your budget would inform the question. Other posters' suggestion to go active is a good one. The Linn can go active, but is also really good without.
Know a Good NYC Electrician for Dedicated Lines?
Many thanks for the helpful responses. Will take all comments on board. Agree, Buconero, can't be too careful in these matters.
What's under your sub?
Two different approaches in different systems. In the office system, I use a Sub Dude under a Velodyne. It made a very surprising and significant, instant improvement to tighten up the bass, correct for more tuneful bass, and reduce boom. At home ...
Room treatments on the ceiling?
I use four ASC Cinema Panels, that both absorb and difuse. The effect was helpful in taming an overly bright and bleached sounding room. I have them mounted directly above, and parallel to, the wall behind the speakers. Helpful. We have soffits al...
Why do McIntosh come with cheap plastic remotes?
Agree with Hansk46 and Theo, ARC take the cake for cheap remotes that are not remotely commensurate the with quality of its components. The remote for the CD-8 is an embarrassment. Why not add ARC to your thread title? The McIntosh remotes may not...
Preamp with tone controls?
The C220 could indeed do the trick. I suggest do some tube rolling to address your brightness issue (and also room mods, but it seems you have that covered). Tone controls are convenient to have, but they will mask, not address, your fundamental i...
Impedance Matching
No, I would not bother. Too many work around heachaces.
How to meaningfully audition speakers??
Bifwynne/OP: As many have already said, it often boils down to buy and try, prefereably used, so as not to take too big a financial hit. Right now I am A/B/C'ing three different pairs of monitors. All three are great speakers, but each is unique. ...
Does anyone know of a good 3-way bookshelf speaker
KEF 201/2, top ported, so can get closer to the back wall, although perhaps a bit large to be consider "bookshelf." Also, the Linn Akurate 212, albeit a 4-way, is compact but delivers BIG TIME -- way underrated around here.
Room size & choosing speakers
Need to correct my post, our listening space is 2X the size of the OP's room, not 3X (wish it was).
Room size & choosing speakers
To be sure, monitors are the way to go under your circumstnces. While the Mac/B&W is a nice pairing, IMHO, better results can be had. As a threshold matter, I suggest integrating a sub from the outset (e.g., JL F110 would be plenty in 10x12 ro...
Kef 201/2 your impressions and comparisons
Ah, my error on the the Cayin power rating (I read the specs too quickly). I am not familiar with the amp, but your experience speaks well of it. Good luck with the 201/2. I'm running a JL F112 with them. Keep adjusting and you'll get them synched...
