Accuphase E650 XLR Input issues
@paradis sounds like this is a real functionality issue, I would start debugging it with balanced input preamp inspection.
Accuphase E650 XLR Input issues
@paradis "I'm asking on behalf of a dear friend”  if your “friend’s" question is targeting to collect Accuphase reliability and performance feedback,  my personal experience w/ Accuphase is 100% positive.  " sounded noticeably softer than the ri...
Accuphase E650 XLR Input issues
@lalitk 100% agreed! My experience with Accuphase components is positive, and in my setup all Accuphase components produce ZERO background noise!
Accuphase E650 XLR Input issues
"the accuphase integrateds are known to have poor implementation of xlr input(s) - they have been measured to be rather noisy compared to the standard rca inputs" @jjss49 : more details, recognized Lab measurement results, etc., will be helpful!
Musetec (LKS) MH-DA005 DAC
Hey @yyzsantabarbara , can you please provide more details, etc, you did find better in 005 vs X26, sound/feels/measurements/blind-sound-check? thanks
Calling All Ex - Shindo Preamp Owners
After 40yr experimenting with all kind of amps, now I am using Accuphase P-4500 and A-48 (Class A A-48 mostly in colder seasons, it generates some heat). Driving those with perfectly matched in a balanced way C-2420 pre., w/ AD-2820 phono.
DAC That Punches Above Its Price Point
Best for the money headphones I think / have are Sony MDR-Z7, 1st generation. Lates MDR-Z7M2 are not so good, probably because marketing team recognized as MDR-Z7 almost indistinguishable from pricey MDR-Z1R, and asked Sony design team to “improve...
Rel Does Not Recomment Isolation Stands
@tablejockey "best to just try and decide with your own ears” Correct, if test is blind (listener does not know which specific cable is used). In 99% opinion-reviews, cables are ranked by “looking good more expensive is better point”  not performa...
DAC That Punches Above Its Price Point
herman, I agree on final sound check of any audio component in sound system, to make sure if no hum noise, microphonic effect (rubber hammer tap test), etc. the problem is in using “listener" as sound quality assessment, because all humans are not...

DAC That Punches Above Its Price Point
herman, for many ppl here understanding “simple” critical for sound quality path capacitor and it’s electrical model behavior, including nonlinearities, frequency dependencies, aging, dielectric loss, etc., is beyond range. pl ping me privately if...
DAC That Punches Above Its Price Point
"Take 3 very different caps, paper-in-oil cap, teflon film and a bipolar electrolytic of same value and the plots will be exactly the same, meaning... they measure the same”not really, better capacitors always show better measurement results, if m...
DAC That Punches Above Its Price Point
herman, I agree with you on as not all measurements, performed on not always perfect testers are telling us whole story. Measurement equipment has many issues by itself, such as temperature drifts, noise floor, sampling accuracy issues, internal r...
DAC That Punches Above Its Price Point
@herman I was responding to “measurements mean zero” attitude, not specific posts. Please point me to any of sound components “certified” by audition at the end of “measurements based” production line.
DAC That Punches Above Its Price Point
@lemonhase: "if you are measuring the right things” agreed 100%, tests should be aligned with real sound performance metrics. "I can swap out a cap of same value in a speaker crossover”-capacitor has many electrical characteristics beyond capacita...
