Is There any Consensus at all amongst Audiophiles?
Can we at least agree that one objective we all strive for is to reproduce the source material without alterations? Regardless of source type, don’t we all want to build a system that won’t add or subtract anything?  Leave the issue of source qual...
Sturdy Turntable Stand
I use a heavy wood console unit. It sits on a concrete slab in the lower level in my house. You can jump up and down on the floor anywhere and not hear rumble in the TT. Banging on the wood console top produces very little that the TT picks up. Th...
Why Do Schumann Resonators Work?
As a side note, be suspicious of products that are advertised as patent pending. I worked for a patent law firm and learned that anyone can apply for a patent for anything for a small filing fee. Filing doesn’t in any way imply the product has mer...
Miracles in Audio, by luck, by good choices,by design or by tweaking...
I will add my audio miracle. I use a damping material I bought from Marcof Electronics many years ago. I was told it was made from a mixture of butyl rubber and crushed limestone. It’s still soft after decades. I use it for all types of damping. B...
Great musicians who should have been famous except....
Introduce your son to Omar Hakim -played with Weather Report, David Bowie, Sting, Madonna, Dire Straits, Journey, Kate Bush, George Benson, Miles Davis, Daft Punk, Mariah CareyOr Aaron Comess from Spin Doctors. Amazing talent.
MQA?
MQA is a marketing ploy. No one needs it, but since it generates lots of profit it won’t die. There is no issue streaming hi rez files anymore. That’s the problem MQA is supposed to solve. So to continue the ploy they tell you that compressing the...
Musical Fidelity Phono preamp loading
Thanks. I did figure out the black lugs with blue or green rings. It was the other three sets that I was unsure about how I would use them. I think I have it now. Amazing that a company would put this much thought into a product and then not docum...
Musical Fidelity Phono preamp loading
That makes more sense than other advice I’ve gotten so far on the open ended plugs. Thanks!
Musical Fidelity Phono preamp loading
Thanks. I have gotten that far. There are more loading plugs included. These are open at the back and don’t seem to be a complete circuit without something plugged into them. That’s the mystery. I won’t be buying any other Musical Fidelity product...
What’s really hurting the audio hobby?
I seem to have hit a nerve with some of you. Toolfan69, you are right that this post would not endear a newcomer to this hobby. I wasn’t trying to be negative about the hobby. I did not anticipate how far ranging the responses would be. I do think...
What’s really hurting the audio hobby?
Yyzsantabarbara, thanks for posting the link. This article is encouraging. I guess my perception that the the love of music and quality sound is dying was thankfully not true. And the article points out as you do, that younger people are more inte...
What’s really hurting the audio hobby?
Keegiam you are spot on. I didn’t realize music programs had been cut so severely in the US, until I read it here and did some research. That’s so unfortunate. If people never get exposed to a wider range of music, played by professional musicians...
What’s really hurting the audio hobby?
In the original post I talked about a bad dealer experience and how that might keep people from learning about better sound. I find so few people who have ever experienced really good hi-fi. Because of that, most scoff at the idea. They don’t thin...
What’s really hurting the audio hobby?
The positive news is, I think there is a good chance that all the interest in vinyl from the younger crowd could entice some of them to want better sound. I recently went to a tent sale for used CDs and records. The place was packed. I saw peopl...
What’s really hurting the audio hobby?
I agree with the comments here about the interest in better sound being driven by the love of music. I think it has to be. For me, it started when I was a musician in a band. I noticed when we piped music through the PA system between sets, it s...
