Need help on a CD player
I recently replaced a 25-year old Sony ES-series CD player with a Marantz CD6006 and I'm very happy with it. Excellent build quality and the heft (14lbs) and 3-year warranty are reassuring. Most importantly, the sound quality is much better than e...
Tone controls -- assuming you're ok with them, when would you try them?
I miss the functionality of the Loudness control in particular when I'm using the audio system for background music. The volume is set to a low level and, as predicted by Fletcher-Munson, the low frequencies are MIA.
Goldenear Triton One bass setting
dcaudio OP74 posts03-17-2020 6:33pm"Is there a CD that has good frequency tracks and use a sound meter on my iPhone to measure to get a flat response?" I gave up trying to adjust the various sub settings by ear and used a test CD (Stereophile S...
REL subwoofer using only red cable not yellow per REL technical dept
"....REL suggested first unplug yellow wire from speaker terminal and turn up sub gain as that might improve the bass integration...."Do NOT leave the yellow wire floating! I recently traced a low-level rumbling sound to an open connection between...
why the limited number of Stereophile recommended components in the A and B class ?
masi61 Perhaps you should contact Stereophile and air your complaint with them.
Surge protector vs wall debate for amps
I recently had an Integrated Amp fail and it was the only equipment not running through a surge suppressor. Didn't feel comfortable leaving it unprotected so I purchased a Zero Surge 8R15W protector/filter and everything, including a small sub, is...
Subwoofer insight.
Adding a Rel sub to a pair of Kef LS50s was one of my better decisions. The sub filled in the bottom end and increased the soundstage (depth, in particular). The little Kefs no longer sounded small. Would like to add another sub but room layout is...
Subwoofer or New Speaker
I also have a small (11' X 12') listening space and a Rel T/5i proved to be a nice addition to Kef LS50s. The T/5i filled in the bottom end and expanded the soundstage (depth, in particular), making for a much nicer musical experience.
Good and bad w/ replacing stock preamp jumpers?
I tried the Audioquest jumpers on my Bryston B60R Integrated Amp but liked the stock jumpers better.
I am frustrated with the sound from my DAC
According to this Stereophile review, the Peachtree DAC-iT uses the ESS Sabre24 9023 DAC chip. I briefly owned the DAC-iTx and thought the sound was good but not what I was looking for.  https://www.stereophile.com/content/peachtree-dac149it-da...
Speakers Don’t Matter As Much As We Think They Do?
erik_squires7,833 posts02-15-2020 9:56am"I do believe that being happy with any speaker is the room. Too often listeners hear a great experience at a dealer, come home, don’t have it, and then are sold power cables, amps, etc, to try and reach t...
Comparison of latest DAC chips
I was looking for an inexpensive DAC to extend the life of a Sony X303ES CD Player and the Schiit Modi 3, with its AKM 4490 DAC chip and DC-coupled output, was exactly what I was looking for. I actually like it better than the Peachtree DAC-iTx an...

Damping Plates
lowrider573,504 posts02-07-2020 11:24am"I use them on all my tube components...."Reportedly, tube equipment and CD players/transports benefit the most from resonance control, although I had good results on a DAC.
