Anyone tried the original Playstation 1 for CD?
So am I the only one with tracking problems? I've had 3 units (still have 2 of them) and have problems in the areas of:won't play a disc at all, andwill "hang up" for a few seconds every 5 or 10 minutes.

Hans Rott? How can we forget someone we've never even heard of?I'm pretty sure Brahms has tried to kill me once or twice, too. He wrote very nice chamber music, though!

Has anyone mentioned Joan Baez? It's coupled with "I Dream of Jeannie" and I believe it's on the "Diamonds and Rust" LP.

+1 on Monk/Coltrane at Carnegie Hall--and can you believe how good it sounds!? Nice live recording from the 50's.

With the 60's and earlier days covered so well, I'd like to make a few suggestions, mostly in a 70's/80's vein, and heavy on guitar influence:any of the albums by Ella Fitzgerald and Joe Pass--there are a handful of them, and they shouldn't be har...

I can't say I've noticed a difference (powered up for weeks now), but I was already very happy with the sound. Now if I could only get them (I have two) to track worth a flip. Won't play some CD's (especially "home-burned") and has the occasional ...

For education and entertainment, it's off the charts.Everything, it seems, is there. I almost feel as if a video of my fingers typing this sentence will be on youtube tomorrow. And, it's free (if you're already online). Can't beat it!

At this point in time, I find that Baroque and earlier music sounds better to my ear and simply more "right" when played on period instruments and with the prevailing scholastic ideas applied. Classic era music I like either way. By around Beethov...

Regarding the 80's digital DG Karajan set--I'm curious to know if any of you find them tolerable on today's less harsh-sounding machines. I know I found them hard to listen to back when they came out, but much better-sounding now.
How did "Oh Mercy" end up sounding so great?
Well, I'm not hearing it on your system, but he definitely has some instruments panned totally (or nearly so) to one side or the other. That would make those instruments seem a good deal to the left or the right of the ones which are panned more t...
