Soundstaging and Imaging: The Delusion about The Illusion
I’ll accept that it might be possible for two ears to perceive the location of a source in relation to distance, but I’m not sure that the effect can be recreated with only two speakers. I’ve seen lots of mixing boards with a knob for right and le...
Do any of your Rolling Stones recordings bring "Satisfaction"?
bimasta, FWIW I heard the Stones live with Brian, with Mick T. and with Ron.  I never heard them sound good live.  The playing may have been great but the sound system never overcame the difficulties presented by the setting (twice indoors in Hous...
Hal Blaine
Here is an insane list of songs Hal Blaine played on--from A Hazy Shade of Winter to Zippadee-doo-dah:  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_recordings_of_songs_Hal_Blaine_played_on
Is this the real life, or just death on 2 legs?
I would have far more interest in Bohemian Rhapsody if they had been able to keep Sacha Baron Cohen in the starring role.  But he bolted.  I'm sure I'll give it a try eventually.
Hal Blaine
The Wrecking Crew documentary has been on Netflix--might still be there.  Also, a good movie about Muscle Shoals studio and one about background singers.  All three are worth checking out. It's great that Hal Blaine and the rest of the crew are fin...
What decibel level do you listen at?
I try to listen at a level that's realistic for the music itself, so the only things that get cranked are symphonic and rock music.  Even then I'm probably a bit stingy.  I know better than to listen to rock at concert level volume.
No love for 70's guitar bands?
I couldn't stand any of those bands so they had no relevance for me then and have none today.  I respect the musicianship but the music did not hit me where I live.  At that time I listened to a lot of Ry Cooder and David Bromberg, which helped me...

Which courier do you prefer?
I've shipped many musical instruments (violins and guitars mostly) and I prefer USPS.  I find them reliable and mostly prompt.  FedEx second, UPS third.  USPS keeps it moving cross-country on holidays and weekends (no holiday delivery, though).
RIP Peter Tork
blindjim,  Mike Nesmith had more post-Monkees success as a musician than Tork or the others, and for good reason--he could play, sing, and especially, write quite well.  Linda Ronstadt recorded at least two of his songs and had a hit with one of t...
Your favorite male soul voices
He's considered a blues artist, but Taj Mahal has done some fine covers of soul and R&B tunes.
It was 50 years ago today....
I always have preferred the first McCartney LP to Ram.  Except for Teddy Boy--what a loser that is!
Do you listen to equipment or music.
If it were ALL about the music I'd still be listening to my 1972 Minimus 7's (hey, they had a lifetime warranty)!  Can anyone here truthfully say they have never listened to the equipment?  It's highly unlikely--how would you choose one component ...
The Tragic Decline of Music Literacy (and Quality)
I think some are from U. of North Texas (my alma mahler) and some are east coast.  Guitarist Chris McQueen is originally from Westlake High, near you.
