Gilmore Audio planars revealed
Zaikesman, my name is Keith not Kevin (Kevin is my brother in law, heh heh).Putting the system aside I heard the Gilmore Speakers in, I can say with confidence that I have NEVER heard any speakers sound like the Gilmore speakers driven by ANY elec...
Gilmore Audio planars revealed
Ok folks, I HAVE FINALLY heard these speakers in person.I was invited over to Mark Gilmore's house when I went to visit relatives. I was able to hear both the Model 2 and 3 speakers. We listened to the Model 3 speakers extensively because the Mode...
What are the most under-appreciated products?
You want obscure...ASR - You may have heard of ASR because Stereophile did review their phono stage recently. But before this, their availability and press in the US was minimal. Their gear looks like Burmeister crossed with MBL. I heard their 150...
Stereophile confirms new gear is getting worse....
http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/showthread......This link will lead to Pass's explanation reguarding the amps in the Stereophile review.I cut and pasted Pass's response below.KFSo here's the final poop on the subject. To sum up:Stereophile reviewed...
Krell questions and comments
Unless you have a CAST amp, I'd go with a KRC-HR.The KRC-HR is a very special solid state amp that retailed for $7k in 1996. Which probably means it would probable retail for over $11k today. Not that $$$ should mean anything... But the KRC-HR is i...
Will a 30 feet long speaker cable cause problems?
30' will not sound as good as 10' of the same cable. At 30' even using the highest quality speaker cables you are going to get roll off at frequency extremes.Using lesser quality speaker cables, you will get even more roll off.I would suggest tryin...
Warrenty and lifespan of cd players
It's funny, but consumer surveys that ask the questions:What hi fi company is your favorite?andWhat hi fi company is your LEAST favorite?Sony tends to be the most popular answer to BOTH questions.Personally, I have never had a Sony product break o...
Krell questions and comments
I am not a huge fan of Krell amps... But I do think the KRC-HR preamp is one of the most transparent solid state preamplifiers I have yet heard. It really works well with a tube dac feeding it by letting the tubes really shine magically through it...
Kill Bill Soundtrack
Great soundtrack!BUT WAY WAY TOOOOOO SHORT!KF
5 things I will not do agian, what about you?
Jack n Roberts, I feel for you if you never try seperates again. Frankly, I have only heard one integrated amp that I would say is better than most of the solid state seperates I have ever heard. That 'integrated amp' is made by the German company...
Need suggestions for a new amp 200Wpc
IMHO, I think you would be better served upgrading your preamp. There are many preamps that will leave your Sony preamp in the dust.HOWEVER, if you are set on a new amp... I have had the Plinius SA-100 mk3, the Sim Audio W-5, GamuT D-200mk1 and mk...
Wi Fi and Hi Fi
I have 3 computers on a 802-11b wireless network sharing a DSL connection. Each machine is in a different room than the audio system. This does not seem to effect sound quality of 2 channel. The wireless network is very easy to set up and get going...
Vandersteen 3A,, Revel F30, or Magnepan 3.6
Two (2) 200.2 Bel Canto EVO's monoblocked would do justice to the Maggies. They are insanely powerful monoblocked. They are relatively cheap as well.KF
Any WARM, MUSICAL speakers out there?
Ok here is how it works on the Vandy 5's Stenho,You are right about the crossover box between the amp and preamp. HOWEVER, that box is merely a crossover that starts the roll off at 100hz. This rolled off signal is then sent to the amplifier which...
Any WARM, MUSICAL speakers out there?
Stenho, I stated that these speaker were very different because they seemed to be lumped in the: warm musical category. Your suggestion of the speakers is like asking someone if they want eggs or pizza for breakfast. Not saying how different these...
