Advice needed on MC cartridges
" But I am certainly no expert... "" Certainly you are not but neither those gentlemans that posted is ok with unipivots, no matters what . I never claimed to be an expert, just an end user, I left the expertise to  Bob Graham (an actual engin...
Advice needed on MC cartridges
Unipivots are just a pain to handle-they jump all over the place whenever I’ve demoed one. I guess you can get used to it, but gimbal arms are a breeze. This is a gross exaggeration. I owned the Graham 1.5T and then Phantom II unipivots for a t...
Advice needed on MC cartridges
@skyscraper its been mentioned in this thread already a couple of times, but I'd like to throw my recommendation behind the stylus upgrade for the 2M Black - the LVB 250 (boron cantilever with the same Shibata stylus). Don't overlook this option ...
Why exotic stylus not used on MM?
the difference in quality performance sound is just for the difference in cantilever. But that you already now Yes of course. The Ortofon Shibata is a beautiful example of that stylus type and the boron cantilever is its natural partner IMO (h...
Why exotic stylus not used on MM?
01-31-2022 12:45am I have a rega rb300 arm on a michell gyrodec. I have analog devices op amps used ss phono stage and pre amplifier.  I was using Ortofon kontrapunkt b then I put a black My expectation was that kontrapunkt b would be better K...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Is anyone else using the Ortofon 2M LVB 250? I upgraded my stock 2M Black to the LVB stylus (boron cantilever, Shibata stylus) and I’m very surprised at the magnitude of improvement. Soundstage, focus, clarity, detail, timbre - pretty much every...
Meridian M30 Active Speakers
It's probably easy to do, but if the amp is faulty maybe not the best course.I'd remove the 'faulty' driver and measure or hook up to to an external amp. If the speaker works the issue lies with the internal electronics. If the speaker measures op...
Meridian M30 Active Speakers
Are you sure the driver has 'blown'?If it is dead, why? Maybe there is an issue with the active amp?The issue needs to be properly diagnosed before just replacing the driver.
Townshend Springs under Speakers
Makes sense. In practice though it seems, if anything, to go the other way. But full disclosure, I have only a very few examples to go by. Certainly there have been Wilson and Magico owners that have found big improvements over spike coupling.I th...
Townshend Springs under Speakers
Sounds to me like the least rigid came out best, and by a lot.  MC I think questforhifi was suggesting that speakers with more rigid cabinets may benefit more from the podiums (i.e. not that rigid connection to the floor is better).
Townshend Springs under Speakers
In the US the gaia 2 are $289 for a set of 4Yeah, current street price for Gaia 2 in Aus is about A$449 (per set 4) which equates to about US$333. So not crazy different.Gaia 1 is typically selling for A$999 in Aus at the moment, about US$741 per ...
Townshend Springs under Speakers
The Gaias represent higher value than the Townshend equivalent although the latter is sonically superior. Not sure I agree. In Australia the Gaia 1 to suit my speakers were A$2.2K and the Podiums were A$3.3K delivered from UK. So 50% more for the Po...
ATC SCM50ASL Pro vs ATC SCM 50ASLT
Oh come on it’s just a cabinet; there’s no voodoo to the ATC cabsNo voodoo for sure, since that isn't the ATC way. However any deviation from how ATC does its cabinets will result in different sound - why reinvent the wheel with the possible compro...
ATC SCM50ASL Pro vs ATC SCM 50ASLT
Jeez, if SCM100 pros are still cheaper than SC50Ts, you could get the SCM50 pros and pay a carpenter to build an identical dimensioned cabinet with the same roundovers and a luxury veneer! Why would you do that?Sounds like a recipe to write off...
ATC SCM50ASL Pro vs ATC SCM 50ASLT
The other thing worth considering is moving up a size in the Pro monitors. If you could accomodate the SCM100ASL Pro it would offer some useful extension over the 50ASL - and would still come in under the price of the SCM50ASLT.
