The only thing a Mustang GT and Porsche 911 have in common is 4 tires and a steering wheel. You're not even right about that. Not even close!  Similarly with the ignorant comparisons of audio brands. Try engaging in more learning and less hyperbole.
Buy a pair of ten year old $40,000 speakers for $4,000 or new ones at that price point?
Agree with all of the above. Would only add that many people get hung up on price and brand names--and this is exactly how marketers would have it.
Girlfriends and wifes, how do YOU cope?
Sobering to realize that many of the contributors from the first few pages of this thread have gone on to the Great Big Upgrade in the Sky.Well, I hope it’s an upgrade, but I’ve never been there. Guess it depends on how good you were in this life....
I went to THE show and didn't make any friends ...
Shows are more about fun than sound. As a side note, I've noticed that often when people criticize systems or components as being "dark" their frame of reference is what others would call "bright" or even "brittle". Who's right? Everyone, or no on...
Small Floorstander?
Immediately thought of Maggies though you'll probably want a sub with them.  Fortunately the sub isn't so placement-specific and doesn't usually need to be moved for listening sessions.
ADS L1290 Speakers
I’m actually running my ADS speakers with a [TPA3255] chip amp and they sound spectacular.this may be the end of the rabbit hole for me. If it has an end it’s not a proper rabbit hole.
Thiel is offically going...going...gone. Auction Time
If you want a positive way of changing ownership look at Conrad Johnson.Agreed. They seem to be selling stuff actually worthy of the name. The last "real" Thiel speakers were mighty impressive but that was a number of years ago now. Oh well.
Used vs New vs Vintage vs Floorstanding vs Bookshelf vs ..... OMG!
I have another question: is there really any difference between a Sony CD/Blu ray reader and an incredibly-expensive used CD reader from Audiophile brands? Yes, the Sony won't break and if it does it can either be repaired cheaply or simply replac...
McIntosh MA252 Tube/Hybrid Integrated Amplifier Giveaway
So who won?
New McIntosh MA252
If I were going to be swayed by a McIntosh tube integrated it’d be the MA2275. But really it’s too big, heavy and expensive, not to mention I’ve foresworn valve amplification for the duration. I’ll stick with SS.But that 2275 is a beaut.http://www...
Does SS phono preamp negate tube amp sound?
Generally speaking, if you are wanting to mix tubes and solid state, the consensus is that you are better off with a tube preamp (including line section) and then a solid state power amp. Took the liberty of editing the penultimate word there. Oth...
Used vs New vs Vintage vs Floorstanding vs Bookshelf vs ..... OMG!
King Crimson, Ramones & Beethoven. As luck would have it, those three acts are planning a reunion concert this summer at the Beacon Theatre in Manhattan. Tickets are going fast, so get yours soon. Then you will have the appropriate benchmark fo...
Speakers under $5000 maintained a reputation for quality sound over the last 15 years.
Hundreds of threads on every audio site: "Tell us your favorite brands" (usually whatever you own).
Help with picking new integrated for under 3k
The MA6500 is great so is the 6900. For power amps look at the MC202 and 162. Unlike many people I prefer the direct coupled amps. But what do you not like about the CXA60 that prevents you from using it as an integrated?Telling us why that well-re...
Speaker stands brand?
Yep Sound Anchors cannot be beat but esp for Harbeth you may also see Skylan stands.
