why do so many discussions turn contentious?
@johnto we would only have one company making amps, speakers and other audio products. Sadly this is probably the "mission" of some forum members that only recommend the same company over and over for amps, speakers, and cables/tweaks - for all us...
why do so many discussions turn contentious?
There are many really great threads going on right now that it does give me hope.  The discussion on SUTs with @jcarr participating and even the interestingly helpful thread that's been evolving on Tektons (as the discussion has focused on speaker...
why do so many discussions turn contentious?
Honestly @arcticdeth  are you suggesting that we embrace a platform of obnoxious, mean-spirited, sarcastically hateful banter and a thick skin is the premise of being able to thrive here?  Wow...what ever happened to a friendly exchange of ideas, ...
SUT Advice - Which Ones Are The Best?
For adjustability the Zesto Andros Allasso is among the most versatile, but you pay over $2,500 for that adjustability of gain and loadings. I have this SUT in my main system and it’s a nice unit. For my second system I bought a used Rothwell MCX f...

@tvad   I can't tell you how relieved I am to hear that this thread didn't single-handedly drive him away from the forum! lol
Tube Amp recommendations to drive Klipsch Forte III
@charles1dad   Did you see the 2019 Stereophile review of the Luxman SQ-N150?  Ken Micallef really liked the pairing with Forte III's, in fact in some ways better than his O/93's.  The DNA looks similar to the Leben for sure with possibly a little...
Which amp would you choose and why - Pass Labs XA-25 or First Watt F8?
The XA25 is the much "safer" choice in that it has much more power and is stable down to 1/2 ohm.  From everything I've read (and I had the XA30.8 paired with similarly spec'd D7's), the XA25 will have better bass and silkier mids.  The F8 may sou...
Suggestions for a replacement dac
In this cost range and with similar sonic preferences I'm actually considering a Mhdt Orchid right now.
My Experience With Tekton
@tsushima1 I wasn’t just making that up. Tekton says in the video that 8 ohms is "an obsolete impedance" and that they will always steer you first to a 4 ohm design. Here’s the link: (1) 8 Ohms vs 4 Ohms: Which is Better for Audio? - YouTube
My Experience With Tekton
yep @tvad it's just a starting point.
My Experience With Tekton
@tvad I think reflecting on the approach that DeVore takes to speaker design is quite relevant in this thread because it’s really the opposite approach to Tekton’s approach - at least to a large extent. On the one hand you have John’s design appro...
Tube Amp recommendations to drive Klipsch Forte III
@charles1dad Totally agree on synergy! Just because something looks like a good match on paper that's certainly no guarantee - and the converse is often true as well.  You just have to try - and trust your ears, not the specs. The Leben CS-300xs an...
Tube Amp recommendations to drive Klipsch Forte III
Just tried pairing my Luxman MQ-88uC with my Forte III's.  There's no magic to be had here.  I tried the 4,8, and 16 ohm posts....sounded best on 8 ohms as expected, but after 45 minutes of trying I couldn't wait to get the Leben back in.  The Leb...
why do so many discussions turn contentious?
@jw .perhaps I am optimistic in thinking we have achieved a small step in that direction? I’m going to be optimistic myself. Thanks for starting the thread and raising the self-awareness.

@tvad Thanks for lucid thoughts on this as always. If nothing else, the input on this thread over the past 4 pages validates your premise that far and away forum members are applying tweaks as tweaks - not expecting them to be the cornerstone of o...
