Great Music/Bad Vinyl - 2010 Edition
Palasr: "Mastodon - Crack the Skye is a muddy awful mess. The mastering is utter shit. There are so many good metal albums sonically, but this isn't one of them though musically it's quite good."You must not own the 45 rpm double LP? It sounds pre...
how much better are vandersteens 1c than model 1
"It's as if a blanket has been removed from the speaker."Of course, we've heard this used for power cords, turntables, power amps, cartridges, frogs placed in bowls of water, etc.But you'll love the 1C. Can't do better for the money.
Next Wilco Album
I'm gonna disagree and say that A Ghost Is Born is probably the worst record Wilco ever made. Way too much "navel-gazing" on that one.How could they possibly put out a song such as "Less Than You Think"? It can truly change your mood for the worse...
Plinius 9200 Int. Amp Phono section question
If I remember right, Plinius boosted the gain on the 9200 to -61db for the "low setting".That should work well.
Vandy quatro vs Vandy 5’s
TD,Well then, I'm making the same point if the Quattro ever had to be serviced. It IS something to think about for the future if either were purchased.Happy now?
Vandy quatro vs Vandy 5’s
To get a pair of Model 5's for $5400 is certainly a great deal. But if anything goes wrong with them at some point in time, I can only imagine what a tremendous hassle it would be to get those things serviced.
Plinius 8200 vs. 9100 -Which one?
Mjcmt,Nope, you won't have to send it to New Zealand for service. The USA distributor for Plinius is based in Los Angeles, and there's a guy there who can provide the name of a tech closest to your area of the country.
Plinius 8200 vs. 9100 -Which one?
Mjcmt,I have an 8200 MKII, and I really don't see myself moving on to another integrated. I also happen to use inefficient speakers as well (Vandersteen 2Ce Signature). As far as I know, the MKII had a lot of improvements to the phono stage compare...
Woofers going crazy when playing vinyl
Bob, please let us know what you think after trying the KAB.I think you're going to be hit with large waves of relief!
Woofers going crazy when playing vinyl
Bob, I had the same situation where I couldn't move the turntable and couldn't mount it on the wall, etc.The KAB rumble filter finally solved my troubles a few years ago, and I've never looked back.
B&W vs Vandersteen?
Stringreen,You mentioned, "Regarding the Vandersteen input posts. You need smaller (vintage) size spades. Yes you can use big one, but if you touch the metal mounting plate with a bit of left over spade, you will blow out the amp."I just looked in...
Soundsmith's turnaround time?
What about the possibility of simply not accepting any more cartridges until the current backlog is taken care of?Many musical instrument makers have to do this, for one example.
Sterophile's not so nice review of Bryston
So who's going to start up the audiophile version of Consumer Reports, where no advertising is allowed?
Excessive woofer movement with a VPI JMW 9 ?
Another vote for the KAB rumble filter - I went through so many scenarios ad naseum before buying one - cartridge compliance, phono stage gain, isolation feet, mounting the table to the wall...on and on.The KAB is a miracle worker, plain and simple.
Low freq. rumble????
KAB Rumble Filter is your answer.I had major, major problems with woofer pumping until I got one. This completely neutralizes rumble, and it won't affect the sound.
