What is the best solid state amplifier you have ever heard?
Classe Audio DR-3
Tubes or stick with S/S
In my last few systems I've had sucess using a tube pre-amp with a SS amp.You get the bottom authority of SS, with the sonic signiture of a tube. The braun, with the warmth, without the need of expensive power tubes.Happy listening.
Anybody out there re-cantilever their cartridge with a Soundsmith Contact Line diamond ?
Thank you Gentlemen,  for your contributions. And @chakster, very good of you to take the time to draft such a comprehensive post. Seems like you have a good heart. @tooblue ; your sense of humour appears to contain elements of provocation. Our ...
Anybody out there re-cantilever their cartridge with a Soundsmith Contact Line diamond ?
Thank you, upstateaudio, - irish_tim, - johnsonwu, - and - tooblue, for sharing your personal dealings in having your cartridge work done by Soundsmith. Actually having the work done, and in the case of "tooblue" multiple cartridges, has provide...
Anybody out there re-cantilever their cartridge with a Soundsmith Contact Line diamond ?
Thx Tooblue, your input is appreciated. As for your question Chakster Maybe it’s time to try something different? Or you are so in love with DV-20x2 ? The 20x2 has never turned a revolution. It was damaged when being set-up.
I need your suggestion for a Preamp.
Hi audiomaster, Shame you feel that way about complimenting SS amps with tube pre-amps. It has not been my experience. As a matter of fact experience has taught me that LUKASKE is bang on. It is not a habbit of mine to slag other people’s systems,...
Klipsch!. The worst speaker company, EVER?
Wolfy Thank you for reinforcing my point, and if you prefer, how's a red herring? Heresy IIIs: Frequency Respose 58Hz – 20kHz Cornwall IIIs: Frequency Respose 34Hz - 20kHz Right off the hop the listener is missing out on 24Hz of the music...
Want to get into Analog
Dear mrpostfire,Analog that tops digital is not inexpensive, and coming from a guy that started with analog, a grand in used gear won’t quite cut it. But it’s a start. Why? A bring home the bacon cartridge starts at around the $500-$1200 mark, wit...
Klipsch!. The worst speaker company, EVER?
As we've all heard specs are not the be all end all when it comes to the palatability of a speaker, but conceptionally it's a good place to start.Knock this reviewer if you want, but the guys right, Heresy's are a white elephant.   If one purcha...
Full Range under $5k-ish
Take the time to put Martin Logan Requests on your audition list. You have a room they should work in nicely.I own Focals 946 Electra's, which I run with a 100W amp and love. I'm not about to change my amp and speakers, but you have plenty of powe...
Recommendation on power amp
From what I know the Parasound jc-1’s are a pretty fancy pair of amps. Where do they fall short? What sort of sound are you after? What’s the size of your room?Tubes are nice, but I’d go that route in the pre-amp stage, longer tube life, heat, powe...
Which area of components to spend the most $ on? Boy I was wrong all my life!
Skimrm, I hear ya ..... at least in theory. It's been a 40 year voyage into audio for me, and your right, when I stepped up to a high-end modified deck, and got some sot after NOS tubes for it, the differences in the entire system were profound....
Why so many used focals?
There's an old saying in engineering Steve, "If it looks right -  it usually is".The Kanta 3's look right. I don't know why, but rear ported speakers are a game breaker for me. The Kanta 3's are front ported, and look at these numbers. Sensiti...
Why so many used focals?
Hey Steve, I’ve been an audio enthusiast for close to 45 years now, and for the time being have settled into a pair of 946 Focal Electra for a few years. Pertaining to your question, "are Focals a clear upgrade path OR are they short term speake...
