Johnny Cash...Sounding Better Than Ever?
I love all five of the American Recordings, but also the 5-cd set, "Unearthed" that came from the same sessions. Great, great stuff. Mapman's recommendation about "Legend" (a four disc set) and Personal File (2 discs) is also spot on.
Jewel - the singer, not the case...
When I said I didn't think Ronstadt had anything over Jewel, I should have qualified that. Ronstadt is great, no doubt, but there are at least 3 issues here. Talent, versatility, and lifetime accomplishments. I believe Jewel is in the Ronstadt lea...

"She's [Jewel] hosting a hillbilly reality show."Hee hee. In 1980, Linda Ronstadt did the Muppet Show. By the looks of the Amazon reviews of the DVD (Best of the Muppet Show rel. 2003), she didn't do that great of a job. By contrast, Jewel nailed ...

Ok, Audiofeil, your A-list admittedly forms a rarefied atmosphere, but Jewel easily is a cut above Crowe, Ross and Jones. I own and enjoy some of that "peasant" music, but in my opinion Jewel is the better vocalist. Evidence abounds, although like...
Jewel - the singer, not the case...
I'm tellin' ya Jewel is top tier, not some "runner up." You have to see her unplugged stuff live, songs that don't make it to the CD's. Best CD is Spirit, followed closely by This Way and Goodbye Alice. If one prefers a rock sound over folk, that ...
Jewel - the singer, not the case...
Over at strippedmusic.com (a spare arrangement, "unplugged" site") there is a wmv video of Jewel doing a cover of Nina Simone's "The Other Woman." Check it out. It's shows off her womanly-mode, and control.
Jewel - the singer, not the case...
I would pit Jewel's voice up against ANY non-operatic female singer alive today, in range, power, control, whatever. She is my very favorite... because of that voice. Skeptics should watch and listen to her 2 performances she did while hosting Nas...
Best "album" of 2006
To update my 5-27 entry...Johnny Cash-- American V.Jewel-- Goodbye Alice in WonderlandNeko Case--everything she does. Fox Confessor drove me to buy everything else and see the live concert. She's awesome, and I can't get enough.I look forward to B...
Best "album" of 2006
Neko Case's "Fox Confessor" and Johnny Cash's "Personal File."
Your favorite song from a RECENT cd release?
It's hard to argue with Maybe Sparrow by Neko Case. I have to second that.I'll get back to you again after Jewel's new CD is released, and also Personal File by Johnny Cash in a few weeks, and then in July, the posthumous release of American V.
GMA Callisto VS. Merlin TSM
I once bought a brand new pair of B&W CM2's. Those did have a major "suckout" or frequency response gap. They were awful on male voices. I noticed it and returned them within one week. This problem is easily noticed, even by neophytes who can'...
Monitor Shootout
S7Horton,I bought mine without having heard them first, something I thought I'd never do. "Bluebull" on this website convinced me to research the TSM's, and so I read nearly everything online I could find about them. At audioreview.com, you can fo...
Monitor Shootout
You should consider adding Merlin TSM-MX's to this list. I own a pair and love them. But first,...Revel M22 is a very good speaker. The only reason I can't call it great is because I've never heard it image well. I've listened to it extensively (2...
B&W Sig. 805 and Merlin TSM
I have listened to the new 805S 's for close to two hours. The Merlin TSM-MX's are better in nearly all respects. I have not listened, yet, to 805 Signatures, but I'm told the 805S's are a poor man's 805 Sig, and that the sound is the same or clos...
