Lyrita Catalog
I have a CD of the famous Arnold: English, Irish, Scottish, and Cornish dances, Lyrita SRCD-201. I also own a Lyrita sampler CD released by Quad of England that indicates that Lyrita catalog #'s 201-235 were available in CD format by 1993. The wor...
Most compelling vocal you discovered in a movie?
In "Grace Of My Heart," Illeana Douglas lipsynchs a Burt Bacharach song about a failed relationship, "God Give Me Strength," that just broke my heart. I didn't buy the movie soundtrack (I own the laserdisc), but the song is on the Bacharach/Elvis ...
Best way to enlarge spindle hole in vinyl records
I agree with the argument that too large a hole may increase your chances of off-center playback, but I disagree that tight coupling to the spindle is necessary or desirable for most turntables. If you have a noisy platter bearing, tight coupling ...
Best way to enlarge spindle hole in vinyl records
Get a "rat tail" file at a hardware store and slowly rim out the hole by rotating it; do NOT use a sawing motion. I occasionally have the same problem with my Walker Proscenium turntable, which has a larger than average spindle.
Rogersound speakers?
Those are not related to the British company Rogers. Rogersound Lab speakers were sold factory direct from Van Nuys, CA as an in-store house brand starting in the early '70's. The 3600 model was a 3-way 12" woofer bookshelf model, the second gener...
Do stands / spikes improve B&W 802N performance?
Save your money and get the spike kit from your B&W dealer (generally supplied free by request). The problem with too much elevation and tilt-back for the N802 and N801 is that if your ears are lower than the midrange axis, the speaker sounds ...
has anyone heard of skyline speakers
Dali Skylines? Haven't heard them, but remembered that the Skyline 1000 and 2000 were open-baffled ribbon hybrids. Run a Google search for Dali Skyline and you'll get some hits, including some "reviews" at Audio Review.
Dynavector DRT XV-1 Cartridge- Opinions ??
I haven't tried other cartridges in my Walker at home. Obviously, Lloyd likes the Clearaudios for their resolution, but my system was already voiced toward the leading edge/analytical with the Helikon, so synergy may be lost with faster/more detai...
Dynavector DRT XV-1 Cartridge- Opinions ??
Limiting the discussion to cartridges I've owned and installed in my own system with my Walker turntable, the Dynavector is as far above the Helikon(normal output) in performance as the Helikon is above the Grado Reference. The most striking thing...
GNP Loudspeakers, anyone familiar with them?
If the upper bass and midrange/tweeter modules fit together to form a triangle (front profile) with rounded corners, you probably have their top model, the Valkyrie. There were at least four versions of this speaker, the last retailing for $2295/p...
