Tube sound with no tubes
I have the Jeff Rowland battery powered Coherence II and while I cannot necessarily say that it is the equivalent of tubes, it has never left me wanting for a tube preamp either. I use the Aesthetix Rhea tube phono amp, so I am quite familiar with...
"Original Jazz Classics"
I am quite sure if these are in fact licensed (and that's a big if), Scorpio is sourcing the material from digital DATs or cds. Clearly, these are not from the master tapes. Seems to undermine the entire purpose of buying LPs in the first place.
"Original Jazz Classics"
Unfortunately, it sounds like you bought Scorpio bootleg copies of the OJCs. I've swore off anything thats not used and which I can audition or otherwise confirm the authenticity.
Why Are Phono Cables Different?
Narrod: Are you confusing phono cable with tonearm cable?
Common
I played "Heart of the Sunrise" today. I can categorically state that this re-issue is without a doubt the single most miraculous re-issue which I have ever heard. The kick drum literally sounds as if the walls of the speaker have been kicked. The...

...and its quite good, although I must say, the Kevin Gray/Steve Hoffman reissue of Yes' Fragile (Analouge Productions)which I bought at the same time, is completely off the charts. Heart of the Sunrise is spectacular.
Question for VPI owners...VTA adjustments
Chazz: I don't know whether its the cartridge or the revealing nature of my system, but I can categorically state that I can hear even minor adjustments to VTA. As a recent example, I just bought the new Aimee Mann Bachelor No. 2 on Mobile Fidelit...
Digital force gauge query
I measured my Mystic Mat against the platform of the gauge with a ruler and found them to be essentially the same height. So, to my way of thinking, these eseentially cancel each other out, i.e. placing the gauge directly on the platter is the equ...
Digital force gauge query
Hdm: I think your advise is spot on. I measured with the mat off as a means to compensate for the thickness of the gauge's measuring platform. I am using the exact same gauge as you, i.e. the Carong. My question is why, scientifically, even logica...
preamp remote won't work??
5. Remove the battery cover from the remote, and take the batteries out. Find a paper clip, and unwind & shape it into a "U" shape, such that each end of the paper clip can touch the two adjacent battery connectors (the two metal pieces that a...
preamp remote won't work??
If it works like the Jeff Rowland models, you might want to read this thread. I got mine to work by holding a paper clip across both battery terminals inside the remote for a couple of minutes. http://db.audioasylum.com/cgi/t.mpl?f=amp&m=62633
Rowland for biamp?
I use a pair of Rowland 201s biamped with a stereo Model 10 on top. The 201s provide phenomenal bass, while the 10 is sweet, transparent and detailed, all without the etch digital amps are apparently criticized for. This combo performs seamlessly....
What is a Home Theater Bypass
It works as a unity gain for your preamp so that volume when watching movies/TV is set by your pre/pro and not the preamp. This avoids the situation where the last time you were rocking out to your 2 ch system and shut the system down with the vol...
Where will devotees of Audio Intelligent turn.....
Paul: Is the reincarnation of Audio Intelligent nearing fruition. My fluid supply is running dangerously low. Will I be forced to turn to the competition? Hoping loyalty has its rewards.
The importance of proper set-up
Gentlemen: So, you come home from the garage sale with a 6-eye copy of something or other and you run it through your VPI RCM. You ever so gently drop it on your platter and try to remember what the last record was you played. You can tell from th...
