Small Room, Move Often, Speaker Suggestions.
I second jg41's recommendation for the Totem Arro's, and compared to the other speakers in your list, you could save significant dough. They're somewhat on the lean side of reality, but I would think that they'd be a perfect match for your Mistral...
Tone controls to get bass from small speakers?
Guys,Again, thanks for your insights. I'm doing a lot of web surfing with all this great information!Steve
better gear, worse recordings
... Also, I own Pro Ac Response 3.5's, Totem Arrow's, Sound Dynamics (both of the models recommended by Harry), Energy's, Snells, a Radio Shack boom box as well as myriad electronics, Quatro fil's, etc., etc., etc.If you think it's hard to balance...
better gear, worse recordings
(only kidding). Actually, there's a cornucopia of excellent insight in this thread, but I'd just like to remind you guys that every pop album (and many jazz and classical albums) you have ever listened to have been through an equalizer...of sorts....
I need a bright detailed 300 used speaker cable
Thanks, guys! Your suggestions are extremely helpful.Steve
I need a bright detailed 300 used speaker cable
That's a 300 DOLLAR speaker cable (sorry about that). Also, I'm hooking up the speakers to a Linn Classik. Thanks,Steve
Meridian 563 DAC
I'm not exactly sure when it was introduced, but it was reviewed in Stereophile in April, 1994. I'm not sure when it was replaced by the 566.I have one. Although you didn't ask, I'll throw my 2 cents in about this dac anyway - it's excellent, but ...
Audio Electric Supply/Cary AE3 Tube Preamp
To make a short story long, I have an AE3, but I bought it really as an experiment. I have a pair of Pro Ac Response 3.5's, and was trying to tame the high frequency in combination with a Plinius SA 100. The 3.5 is not typical of Pro Ac's, it's br...
former BAT vk200 owners-what did you move up to?
I found the Plinius SA 100 mk II/III significantly more detailed, with deeper soundstage, and more air around the instruments. I owned both the BAT and the Plinius at the same time, and compared them often. The price you pay is somewhat less bass ...
Bookshelf speakers on a bookshelf?
Thanks, guys. You've given me terriffic food for thought.Steve
Planning audio audition trip to NY/NJ, vendors???
Toys from the Attic, in White Plains, NY (about 45 minutes from 42nd St) is great for used gear (and new gear, too!). I've been a customer since they started. They have a great depth of knowledge because they constantly take home used gear to play...
A good 2ch preamp?
Like Natalie, I recommend that you make the stretch. Today I saw an Audible Illusions Modulus 3 (not 3a) on Audiogon for $700. I owned that preamp until I got a Meridian 518 digital controller that gives me volume control of my dac. It's killer. T...
Any Thought On A New CD to DAC Cable?
I have a Delta, too, connected to a Meridian 518 which is connected to a Meridian 563 with 24-bit upgrade. I'm not familiar with the Optilink, I can't imagine that you are getting anywhere near the performance possible from the Delta with an optic...
DACs with volume controls
How about going for a whole CD player? I heard a Resolution Audio CD-50 in a system recently when I went to pick up a pair of interconnects I purchased from a local audiophile, and I was absolutely blown away. He had it with a pair of Meadowlark H...
Where is the weak chain in my system?
Walker links! I had just about given up on my Pro Ac Response 3.5's and decided to give the links a try. The problem I was having was that the treble was too aggressive - violins too steely, sibilants to sharp, brass too harsh. The links made the ...
