Stereo reciever / integrated amp suggestions?
This Blue Circle CS integrated would work well.http://www.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?intatran&1263500627&/Blue-Circle-CS-Integrated-SS-I
Glass&Steel and just ugly audio furniture
I worked in a hifi shop and the glass racks were a nightmare to keep clean. I would never own glass racks or tables. Salamander racks are not bad. Get the perf sides and it helps hide the cords. Rixrax makes real nice racks if you have a big budget.
Would an external DAC be of any benefit to me?
If you need a remote and HT features go with B&K or Anthem pre/pro used. Add the tube dac and bypass your HT processor for 2 ch. HD media player digital coax out-> Tube Dac-> analog input on pre/pro. Run digital optical cable for HT soun...
Would an external DAC be of any benefit to me?
If you are running 2 channel I would recommend California Audio Labs tube dac and McCormack TLC-1 or Micro Line Drive Pre. This combo should beat the Onkyo with no trouble. Buy the best tube you can get from Andy at Vintage Tube Sevices.
smooth warm CDP with SACD
Anthem CD1 just sold on ebay for 385. Had a scratch on the display window. Great deal. Almost bid on it myself. I bought mine for a second system and I could not believe how much better it was. I can listen to CD's for hours now without fatigue. T...
smooth warm CDP with SACD
Had a Rotel RCD 1072 home for audition. My Anthem CD1 is much more natural sounding with deeper sound stage. The Rotel sound is much more digital and analytical. Used prices are around $600. The changer is a little slow and clunky as many reviews ...
the best sm/ powered speaker or is it better to...
These were getting some high praise for cheap speakers. Point source two way speakers and good cabinet design.http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=7705307&type=product&id=1138085354138Next up the list might be something from Axiom...
Loudspeakers with a wide sweet spot
Gallo Ref I & II's have 270 degree tweeters. They need to be out in the room. HUGE sound stage. $1500-2000.MBL's are 360 degree. You need monster amps also. You might find some just under 10K.
media cabinets
Salamander Designs. Get the mesh sides for cooling and hiding cables. Not super hi-fi, but pretty nice overall. Great for media rooms and very customizable.http://www.salamanderdesigns.com/

Need to replace my Acurus ACD-11
I picked up a Anthem CD1 multi disc player for a second system and it blew away my main rig. Basically it has a 6 disc sony changer with Sonic Frontiers dac and tube output stage. Sound stage is fantastic. Very non-fatigue sound. I kept hearing st...
Sound for my new theater?
All Magggie 7.1 systems sounds interesting. You are going to need some bass reinforcement and big amps to pull it off. I would consult the maggie crowd for amp recommendations. Soundstage liked them.http://www.hometheatersound.com/equipment/magnep...
Which makes the bigger difference?
I would look into Audio Research tube pre and SS Amp combo. See if anyone else with Apogee speakers are using AR gear.
center channel placement ?
Back in the early 90's the AV company I worked for did a couple of these over/under center channels. We had the same idea. Image vertically. The problem is that unless you are in the perfect spot there is going to be time variance between the two....
How much home AC voltage variance is too much?
I have seen way more variance then that over the years. The BPT units get great reviews.
