Seeking amplifier information
Check out the Audio Research 100.2 it is a solid state amp. It is not as expensive as Rolands, but I love the sweet sound it has.
SACD player is not that great.
I don't own a SACD player, but have heard from people that do. They say it takes at least 200 hrs. of break in before it really opens up, but it sounds great after that. If you have not gone through this period just put a CD on repeat with the vol...
Tonearm/Cartridge Upgrade
I have a VPImk4 with the VPI JMW Memorial tonearm and a Benz Glider cartridge and it sounds fantastic. The JMW tonearm was the best upgrade I ever made to my entire system, and I have made a lot of upgrades over the years. Good luck and have fun!
Audio Research 100.2 amp
I own a ARC 100.2 And it a great sounding amp. When people think of Audio Research, they automatically think tubes. That is why this amp is so overlooked. I auditioned it along with a ARC VT100mk2, and if money is ANY consideration, get the 100.2....
looking for an amp ???
I agree with Gmkowal, don't seperate amps into ss or tube. Find the amps you are interested in and audition them (in your home if possible). I was all set to switch from a Bryston amp to a tube amp and I ended up buying a Audio Research 100.2 whic...
Do the Audio gods shine upon you?
My wife has cast her vote. She says I am nuts, come on, help me out guys!
REGA-VPI JR- LINN- OR ? UNDER $800
I suggest the VPI jr. The upgrades are just about limitless and each upgrade yields a significant improvement in sound. I started with a jr. and have gradually upgraded to a MK4. with JMW Memorial tonearm and Benz Glider cartridge. The sound is in...
Best Sounding Passive Preamp
Thanks to all for the info.
Audio Research transistor gear vs. tubes
The 100.2 is an amazing amp. I have compared it to the Audio Research VT100mk2 tube amp costing $5000.00 and I liked the 100.2 better. This amp has all the liquidity of the best tube amps without the high cost of those amps. I don't understand why...
Best Retailer Youve Done Business With?
PROGRESSIVE AUDIO in Columbus, Ohio. These guys are great to deal with, and NO high pressure. They have 15 listening rooms on 3 floors with many brands to choose from in all price ranges. They are also into doing custom installations into homes an...
Best solid-state amp made anywhere
Not the most expensive by far, but I love the Audio Research 100.2. This is a real sleeper in the Audio Research line. They may be known for their Tube amps, but this SS amp is fantastic!
Rolling Stones remasters
Haven't heard any of the Stones remasters yet. I am not sure how much benefit we can get from remastered Stones music. Don't get me wrong, "It's only rock and roll, but I like it". I don't really consider Joe Gastwirt a remastering "guru". I prefe...
Top Ten Tube PreAmp of all time?
I agree with Dekay on the Audible Illusions 3A. I have had mine for about 5 years and have no desire to replace it. I play a lot of LP's and I love it's phono stage.
Tubed pre-amp for solid state amp?
I agree with pops, the tube pre solid state power amp is a great way to go. I have the Audible Illusions M3A preamp and ARC 100.2 power amp and I love this combo. If you play LP's this preamp is unbeatable for the money. Good deals are out there o...
what is everybody listening to right now
I am doing a lot of listening to Dave Weckl Band and Charlie Hunter. In case you are not familier with them, Weckl is an excellent jazz drummer and Hunter plays 8 string jazz guitar. 3 bass strings and 5 lead strings on the same guitar. He is incr...
