Worth pursuing analog sound from digital?
Raise your hand if you wear glasses so you can see 20/20.Raise your hand if you have corrective hearing devices that normalize the environmental damage and adjust hearing parameters according to your effective 'listening' age.So even since Ben Fra...
Worth pursuing analog sound from digital?
If you can weed through the hyperbole, on a quality system, with a quality source, they should sound the same.
GREAT MUSIC - SO POORLY RECORDED...
My minimally interesting reflections require many caveats that I believe explain some of the issues in recordings as time and media technology rolled forward.Notably, Simon and Garfunkel, are just simply superb.  Their music is simple, and the ran...
It’s you.
While the expected response will be 'this has already been covered', I would assume the following is required reading (gawking cover to cover) and has pictures and schematics as expected: https://americanradiohistory.com/Archive-High-Fidelity/50s...
Your favourite music movie?
"The Wall".  It most strictly meets the original question as a Music Movie.  The music itself stands on its own as it was developed first and contains very little dialog.  It artistically mixes animation and live action and is enjoyable with eyes ...
Weight, Clamp or stabilizer?
New mat, definitely.  Rubber ages even if it seems new.  Don't try to fix a warped record with a weight or clamp unless its the only copy...there are plenty of either new presses or 'good' copies at some price point.  A wobbly record will wear une...
What the...have I just done ? Please explain...
This is why I only got a B in Electromagnetic Waves undergrad.
Why According to some Turntable extremists Pitch Control and Direct Drive is Sacrilege?
No one would say that unless they are showing off how they spent $100,000 on a 50kg flywheel with bells and whistles just to do what a solidly designed high-torque motor can do on its own.  But to each his own.  The motor is the lesser enemy of vi...
Power amps into surge protector/Conditioner or DIRECT to wall? Final verdict?
@aberyclark, I believe that blanket advice was good, absent context or other additional factors being mentioned.  Without some knowledge of the equipment, an amplifier could literally ruin and fry a low-end surge protector (picture smoke, I've s...
Distortions that the human ear likes. Are there any ?
Distortions within source material as originally performed, yes.  Distortions from over-saturating downstream componentry or engineers over-fussing with track level gain or EQ boost...no.
I'm having a really hard time with: "Power cable reduced my soundstage"...
The conductors inside the walls feeding from the service panel are already only 12 gauge (or maybe even 14).  I would compare to an off-the-shelf cable and request a refund...there's nothing to debate if it's a "same length" cable and laid in exac...
I feel bad for speaker manufacturers
Infinity in Chatsworth, CA was fantastic and U.S.A.-made.  Nice mid-grade lines and with the RS line moving toward higher-fi but they too got absorbed into the global acquisition abyss of same name product ruin. Also to agree, DCM's had a really ni...
Will a subwoofer add depth and clarity to my system, or just bass?
Hello Jazz,Beautiful speakers.  You have the thoughtfully matched stands.  I would not change a thing other than review placement and any 'treatment' you have in your listening area.  Maybe taming frequencies of 'higher' vocals and up might have t...
What is an Audiophile? Here's the list for newbies.
I shook my head sideways at every Julian Hirsch 'review' in Stereo Review and still read the whole thing front to back at the library and had a home subscription.
Whats playing on your system today?
I recapped my Denon DRA-1025RA last night and then safety checked it. So today I'm shoving and slamming absolutely everything I own on CD from '89 to '95 thru warehouse-find, boxed and original foam JBL LX44's. The Mac and B&Ws are in timeout...
