Decent 6-8ft phono cable advice needed.
In terms of isolation, I also use 4 vibrapods underneath a 1 3/4" thick maple cutting board I bought on Amazon for $25. Very heavy and did the trick for little expense.
Decent 6-8ft phono cable advice needed.
I am by no means an expert in this topic. but did have the same problem in my second system and needed an 8' run.  I spoke to folks at BJC and they assured me the LC1 would be fine for this.  When it arrived I a/b'd it to my VPI phono cable, placi...
Is a GREAT turntable under $2000 possible???
I was able to find a like new Music Hall 9.1 TT on this site for $750 and a gently used Clearaudio Maestro V2 cart for $525.  While I am sure a table like a VPI Prime or Classic may have much to offer, I would be hard pressed to replace my setup f...
Focal Aria 936 vs Flectra 1028BE
Ulterior motive in asking.  Just pulled the trigger and now the proud owner of a gently used pair of Electra 1028BE's.  Not set up at home yet, but demo convinced me it is a clear winner.
Power for Focal Aria 936
I have the predecessor to the 936 - The Focal Chorus 836V.  Similar impedance dip.  I currently drive these with a Marantz PM11S3 which doubles from 100@8ohm to 200@4ohm.  These sound amazing together.  I bought my amp used for $2,400.Prior to the...
Okie Dokie Okki Nokki
Have not done a used record yet, but will this weekend and let you know.  I have re-cleaned a couple of new records that I previously cleaned with the Spin Clean and it did improve these.
Upgrading Turntable suggestions
Not sure what cart you are using, but I have the same TT and and recently upgraded from a Dynavector 10x5 to a Clearaudio Maestro V2 (MM).  I am playing thru a Marantz PM-11s3 with a built in phono stage.  Speakers are Focal Chorus 836V and SW800V...
Why we upgade
If I try to describe the improvements it may sound cliché, nonetheless  - I listened to the AP issue of Cassandra Wilson's New Moon Daughter and Blue Light Til Dawn  and Allen Toussaint's American Tunes and the clarity and texture of these recordi...
Looking to upgrade amp, need help.
I have the Focal 836V's and an SW800V sub.  I can highly recommend the Marantz PM-11s3 integrated amp to pair with these.  The amp is rated at 100w@8ohm doubling to 200w@4ohm,but has been tested by a few magazines and puts out significantly more p...
$500 (or less) CD players to mate w/ Marantz PM8004 & Vandersteen 2C
I have the SA-8004 paired with a PM-8005.  Playing thru Focal 836V speakers which are pretty efficient (other than a dip at 100hz). Amazing combination for the money.  I upgraded to the PM-11s3 and SA-11s3, but kept the others for a second system.
Integrated Amp Upgrade-itis hitting....
All seem to be good choices.  I only have real experience with the Marantz.  I had the PM-7005, then the PM-8005 and now the PM-11s3.  All have been great. Kept the PM-8005 for a second system.
Best Integrated Amp You Ever Heard?
Very happy with my Marantz PM-11S3.  Picked it up gently used for $2,150.
Looking to build a system for under $5k
Audionoobie - another option (as opposed to a high end audio show) is a mini vacation to a major city such as NYC.  Within 50 miles there are multiple dealers representing a wide variety of brands.  You can visit their listening rooms where, chanc...
Should I upgrade to XLR interconnects?
I tried calling Marantz but tech support has not called back yet.  In the meantime, I ordered a pair of BJC Canare Quad Star XLR balanced cables.  At $65 / pair delivered, I thought I can experiment without spending big bucks.  WE will see if ther...
Looking to build a system for under $5k
You did not say whether you would consider used.  I had great luck buying used on Audiogon, particularly in your budget range, as many people here trade up and have taken great care of their equipment. So many options, but my first system was a Mar...
