Importing used Audio equipment to Canada
I recently had a Canadian buyer back out of a deal for some of my used equipment when Canadiam customs told him the duty would be 15% of their assessment of the value.
Cars R OK, but what kind of motorcycle do you have
A Honda Magna V-4 here, as well, 1994, yellow. It's a wonderful ride.
Dynamic monitors for Audio Refinement Complete
I agree about the Soliloquy 5.0's, those are the speakers I had with the Audio Refinement Complete before I got the ProAc 1s's. They do have a sweet sound that's very forgiving with a wide range of music and recording quality and are an amazing ba...
Dynamic monitors for Audio Refinement Complete
I'm using an Audio Refinement Complete and modified Music Hall CD-25 with a pair of ProAc Response 1s's. I'm extremely happy with the combination.
Is this rude?
I agree that it isn't ethical to misrepresent your interest and ask a dealer to go to a lot of effort for you if you're sure you won't be buying from them. On the other hand, it can be useful to a dealer for me to know what gear they carry and, in...
Parasound Vs Adcom
I've owned, or bought for friends, amps and other pieces of gear from several of the 'budget' audiophile brands over the last few years and, while they're all good, my general preference for sound, build quality and ergonomics is in this order:Rot...
newbie question- omega/meadowlark/traingle/reynaud
My experience is with only the Soliloquy 5.0 and Proacs. Both are wonderful speakers, the Soliloquys perhaps more rich and dynamic, the Proacs more precise with better imaging. Either benefit from matching with a subwoofer, of course, though the S...
newbie question- omega/meadowlark/traingle/reynaud
Yes, lots of good options for small speakers in that price range. Soliloquy 5.0's or Proac Tablettes would be great and you might find a pair of Meadowlark Kestrals for close to that.
CD Changer?
I recently helped a colleague upgrade her system. I put the new integrated amp and speakers in place, a Creek A50iR and Soliloquy 5.0's, but decided to plug in the mid-priced Sony 5-disc changer she already had since we knew it was working and I w...
CD Burning: What Route Should I Go?
To give you good advice about your options with your current Mac we'd need to know which model it is, or at least a couple of things about it. Does it have SCSI or USB as its input port, or ports? And is it a model that will accept a PCI card, so ...
Regarding people selling equipment to U.S.A. only
For me, it isn't that I've had any terrible experiences, there's just a higher level of uncertainty, particularly around customs and duty issues, because there seems to be absolutely no consistency to how the regulations are enforced.I've bought a...
Best Sub $500 used CD Player
Afro18, yes, the Shanling 100 is the same player as the Music Hall CD-25. I'd point out, though, that the one for sale now on ebay is a 220-volt version and would require an external transformer to be used here. The cost of a transformer good enou...
best sub $1000 receiver for music?
The Rotel 1050 is a very, very nice receiver at $800 list. 100 watts per channel, wonderful sound and a lot of well-thought-out functionality. I use one as you're describing it, 98% for music and as a movie system every week or two. There's an Aud...
import tax?
When I brought a pair of used ProAc speakers, made in England, from Canada into the U.S., customs on the U.S. side tacked on a 10% duty. They looked at the bill of sale from the previous owner to determine the value and then spent quite a while lo...
