Threshold S300 power amp.
Hi Bob, thnx for the compliment. How did I choose my gear...I first heard Apogee speakers at a guy I met on another forum who lives close by. I was hooked at the amazing clarity, detail, dynamic range... everything actually. So when I found these ...
Threshold S300 power amp.
I take it you've received the manual, if not, I can scan mine and mail it to you.As for your question about the system: preamp is an Audio Research LS-2, loudspeakers are Apogee Centaur Major's, cables are German W&M. Sources are a Goldmund TT...
newbie questiun on E88CC and ECC88
Philips and Siemens have made very good E88CC's and ECC88's. Philips still makes them. If you want the (presumably) best, go for a 288 and pay the price...
Are you using anti-skating or not
Anti-what? I've got a tangential arm.
The best "imaging" speakers?
A pair of Apogee Scintilla's.
Threshold S300 Power Amp
I own a S/300, partnered wit an Audio Research LS-2 pre and Apogee loudspeakers. The Apogees are demanding and revealing - and the Threshold drives them very well. I like all kinds of music, from death metal to classical. The Threshold is a musica...
THRESHOLD S300
I run the S/300 with an Audio Research LS-2. It might be a good idea to have the S/300 checked - it's around 20 years old. Some caps might need replacing, the bias might need adjusting etc. No big deal the 300 is built as a tank, but some componen...
Always check
Thnx Nsgarch, I was already thinking about changing the glass. That will keep me busy for some time...I've already sold the Kiseki. The new owner will have it retipped, I've decided for several reasons that a retip is not the way to go for me.
Always check
@ Markphd: I calculated I used the cartridge for 500 hours, a new tip should have lasted 1500 hours at least. Unfortunately, Kiseki itself has gone a long time ago, the store I bought the TT has gone to, so it's hard to find out what has been done...
Aragon 4004MKII Vs. Bryston 4 B Pro
If you'd have to choose between these two I'd go for the Aragon and use the money saved to go give it some TLC: caps, bias etc. That way you'll have an amp that is as good as new and can keep up with many modern designs.
Audio Research LS series......
I own the LS-2. Great amp, responds well to tube-rolling and should be available for much less than your budget.
best classical redbook cds for strings and piano
Try 'Horowitz at home' from Sony. Just an old man and his grand piano at his own place playing his favorite. Not only sonically almost perfect, but also musically very, very satisfying.
Any audiophile who is on blood pressure medication
I had a heart attack about one and a half year ago, totally unexpected. Fortunately I'm young (well.. 38 at the time) and in good health. It was a very light attack, no damage done. Since then I'm on meds as you can imagine. Beta-blockers, blood-p...
tube amp for Apogee Tweeter mid-range
Ouch... I really like the sound of my (Nelson Pass designed) Threshold poweramp with my Apogees (Centaur Major). I'd suggest you take another approach and change the preamp for a tube amp. To my ears, Naim gear always sounds a tad bright. Then agai...
Cars. What does the typical audiophile drive?
Just gave up my trusty Hyundai Excell and bought something a bit more luxurious: a Renault Clio in some luxury version (the Ludo). Very light car with a relatively strong engine. I see some speeding tickets coming my way ;).
