Where are Moerch arms sold?
Lots of talk about problems but few details.  I had a DP-6 for several years and was very pleased with it.  I never ran into any problems but if I had I would have contacted the dealer from whom I bought it.  That's one of the advantages in dealin...
Audio Research Reference 5SE modifications/bypassing output caps
I agree with Atmasphere that bypassing a coupling cap results in smearing and a generally incoherent sound.  This is especially true when the coupling cap is a high quality cap like a V-Cap CuTF (my favorite).  And this is also true even when the ...
Tri-Planar & Customer Service Excellence
Nice report Mike.  I bought a Triplanar VII UII over 10 years ago and I still love it.  The Triplanar is an excellent design with a high standard of build quality.  While I have never needed service or advice from Tri Mai, it's good to know he goe...
Racks: Box Funriture vs Sistrum
My Box Furniture rack is on a carpeted floor so I am using the aluminum cone footers.  In my case, the rack makes my equipment sound more lively, not less, compared to the solid wood furniture I used before.  That is probably the biggest differenc...
Interested in Members' Experiences with Rectifier Tube Rolling in Modwright PS 9.0 and 9.9
You need to try a RCA 5R4GY with light brown base.  That is my clear favorite of all rectifier tubes I have tried in my preamps.  They are readily available on EBay for $20 or so and they last a long time.  Don't be concerned about the maximum rat...
Need some help soldering Binding posts.
I have a high wattage iron I use mainly for Cardas binding posts.  I think it is 80 watts but don't recall exactly.  After the iron is fully heated up, I place the tip firmly against the outside of the post while the wire I intend to attach to it ...
$20K to spend on speakers…. . wait! There’s a catch!
I like JOND's suggestion too.  A set of custom high efficiency speakers from Deja Vu Audio with vintage horns and drivers would be just the ticket.

That's interesting about your reactions to the YL/Goodman system.  I can't say I heard those issues with it but perhaps if I had listened longer they might have bothered me too.  My only quibble with it was the bass wasn't quite as rich and weight...

LarryI, that is funny because I went to Vu's this past Friday and heard the same speaker and had the same reactions...exactly.  The speaker in question is the 3-way field coil system with GIP drivers.  I had somewhat mixed feelings about it at CAF...
Devore O/96 vs Volti Rivals
Those speakers sound very different.  You need to hear them for yourself and draw your own conclusions.
Soundstage and explosive dynamics?
In my experience damping the 511 or 811 causes more problems than it solves.
Soundstage and explosive dynamics?
I can sympathize with Kosst over his skepticism about horns.  For many years I felt exactly the same way---all horns I had heard had an annoying "shouting" coloration that I just couldn't get past.  And I still feel that way about many horns inclu...
Capitol Audio Fest
Those of us in the DC area are truly fortunate to have an event like CAF in our own backyard.  It has gotten bigger and better each year to the point where it is now considered by many to be the premier show on the East Coast.  Reading the stories...

When it comes to speaker appearances, the Auditorium 23 gets a gold star for sure.  The cabinet was made of solid walnut with superb joinery and the vertical walnut strips on the front looked really nice.

LarryI, your comment about the Burwell and Sons "Mother of Burl" speakers really surprised me.  Maybe they changed something over the course of the show, but on Friday afternoon when I stopped by their room the sound was just plain awful, I mean e...
